With the Carson Rivers on the DFG no plant list I suspect that the W. Walker and Little Walker Rivers might be more in my fishing plans this year. With the opener a few days away Mrs. C. and I went up to take a look. Started up along 108. Went up to Pickle Meadows. The road up above the Meadow is open but is closed at the foot of Sonora Pass. The river is runoff high and off color but should be fishable in the flat areas and pools. Below there is Sonora Bridge. The water here is swift and off color as well but there are some good fishable holes below the bridge. Had a picnic lunch at our favorite table. Down to US 395 and a look at the Little Walker. Unlike the W. Walker this water does not have big runoff and doesn't color so bad. At this time the water seems to be in near perfect condition. Can't wait to fish here. The W. Walker at the top of the canyon is nearly brown but can be fished from where the Little Walker enters down past the first campground. In Mid Canyon the river is a torrent and will need a little less water to fish effectively. At the bottom of the canyon the water is swift but there are boulders in the water that should be fishable. In the town of Walker is the best news of all. The Walker Burger is open. :) The weather conditions today were near that of mid summer. Weather and water conditions are subject to change. ::)

That's the best that river is going to look for a long while. After a few more days of 80+ days it will be blown out.

Yes. Perhaps mid June. Not so bad along 108 and there's always the Little Walker.

Yeah the Little Walker does seem to be run-off resistant. ;)

Keep that up and I may have to get my Nevada license this year.

Can't wait till you scout out Red... :)

See you Saturday, maybe, They have started to bump up the snow issue.

weather is not looking too good for this weekend, might keep the hordes of fisherpeople away and only the diehards will be out.

Don't need a Nevada license. This part of the W. Walker and Little Walker are in California. Took Hunk up here last year on an Alpers hunt.

FF,
Believe me I would prfer being up that way Saturday. A double or triple chain up is not a real treat though.
More likely my daughter will be the cause of my demise. She has an audition Thursday that could turn into a call back on Saturday with me playing driver. Darn teenage drama queen....

Nice weather would sure be preferred over snow though.

Have a good trip Brad, let us know how you do.

The weather continues to look better for us as we go along. Pulling all of our weather resources here at work it we are down to a 23% chance of snow Friday and only 18% on Saturday. That is down from 40 and 28 at this time yesterday.
I say give us a ton of snow on Sunday and later and I will be a happy man.

They are showing rain / snow Sunday on next week up to 54% chance by Thursday and we sure do need it.

Alright Richard, I hope you find a great spot to fish for your big opener. I will be traveling down that way quite a bit this year. There is a lake that has really gotten the attention of GOLDENTROUT and myself.

Hey CC lets add a secret poll on which lake Mr. Sockeye and Goldentrout will be coming down to see us at.
After the 4 1/2 months or so being stuck down here in the flat land I am so pumped up to be heading back to the high country. You know I would give up a nice 25 fish day at Camanche or Amador for a two fish day up there.
That guy in the truck looks to be working harder than I do.

Only 2 1/2 more days. :D

The latest on our weather - Friday high 36 and rain snow mix at 21% Saturday mostly clear and sunny 8-), high of 46 and rain / snow down to 8% now.
First wave is sliding North second wave starting Sunday thru the week looks to be mostly rain with a little warming up back to 50 degrees.
That bodes well for clearing off our lakes of all that pesky ice. ;D

Almost counting down in hours till departure now. [smiley=excited.gif] [smiley=excited.gif] [smiley=excited.gif]

Hey Captain, thanks for the report!

When you say the road is open to the 'foot of the pass', do you mean the gate at Leavitt lookout or the next gate just past the turnoff to Leavitt Lake? My other passion is spring backcountry skiing and that second gate puts you right next to the goods.

Maphead, I didn't check past Pickel. The sign at 395 said closed 12 miles ahead.
