View Full Version : 3 days at Pyramid

03-22-2009, 05:24 AM
We rolled the dice and headed to Pyramid Thursday morning. :) Picking Scott up at 5:30 in Merced and started over the hill. Just below Colfax, Scott decided we needed some Wild Turkey for the trip. Low and behold I found one, completely shattering my drivers side window on the motor home. Great way to start. *:'(

On the water at 12:30, nice and calm all day. First fish in the boat within 15 minutes. *:) :)We ended up with 7 for the day, with Scott boating his first Pyramid Cutt. *:)Friday proved to much tougher, water still calm but tough finding the fish. We spent 8 hours on the water for Scott's 2 fish. Saturday was what we expected. The storm was coming so we went early and went North. We fished about 3 hours and got blown off the lake.

Best lure, 4" Lyman's, the Kermit. Depth was 15' to 22' and the best areas for us was Mushroom and Warrior. Largest fish was 21" right at 5 lbs. Total was 9 fish for the trip. Lots of people on ladders but not many fish for them either.

With the severity of the storm, we decided to put the boat on the trailer and head over the hill to the valley. One of the better choices I have made. :D We were greeted with 40 mph winds, blowing snow and rain. *>:(

We did manage to stop at Cabelas and shop for a few items. I made it home in time to take the wife out to dinner so I am good to go in April.

Only my second time on the lake, Scott's first, so we had a blast. We are ready for April now. :) ;D

Here are some pics..

With a rig like that you guys could have put out a mail box and stayed for the winter. 8-)

Good report and pictures. Has anybody ever told you Scott looks like Steve Martin? [smiley=winkfs.gif]

As hard as it hit that big, flat window, I am surprised I did not eat it, feathers and all. All Scott kept saying: can you believe how hard it it. I told him I was 2 feet from it, but it is hard to see it hit with your eyes closed. ;D ;D ;D

A few more years of this working crap and I will need a mailbox over there and a few more places just like it.

After a bottle of 'Jack' he acts like Steve Martin also. ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for sharing your success. Dang, 20 lb turkey against a flat windshield could equal something lots stinkier. April will be the month for you and Scott.

What a fun weekend despite the turkey slamming into the window and I still say there wasn't much we could have done to avoid it. Beautiful lake in the middle of a desert with what seems like miles of shoreline to explore. Cool view of the hot springs near the Needles too!

I knew we were in the right location when I saw "stars" on the porta potties when we pulled up, that was great! Looking forward to the return trip in little less than a month, it should be a blast! Couldn't have asked for a better trip even though we missed out on the big fish!

Nice report and pictures. *21" and 5 pounds? :-? *That fish must have been a football and a half. The big difference between the guys on ladders getting poor numbers and the guys in boats getting poor numbers, is the guys on ladders probably caught a fish or two over 10 pounds. Just about every single day a big fish is being caught off the ladders. That is a good tip for guys coming from out of state with boats, bring a ladder and some waders and a spinning rod. If you get blown off the lake, you can still catch fish, and you are more likely to catch a hog.
