due to economic hardship, i must try to sublet our weekly cabin rental at packer lake. there is a 7 year waiting list, and cant make it this year. the cabin has a kitchen, stove/oven, bathroom, hot and cold water. they will supply you with linens, and a row boat at the lake. you can bring your dog, but it cant bite or bark at people. there is a great deck and weber (great for grilled trout and fish tacos). i am sad that we cant make it after 15years. :'(
anyone interested in renting the cabin? pm me for details.
the lodge has crawlers, a freezer, and great food. wed nights is pizza and bingo night (alot of fun).
it is for a week stay, and would like someone who is older (not a party animal). there are some great families on this week as well. ill give you the spots and techniques for fishing the gold lake basin area as well as bakeries, beef places, and lunch spots.
oh yeah there is hiking in the area, but the fishing is what its all about. i have had some 100 cr days. small fish but lots of em.

I"ve been there and the Lakes Basin is an awesome place to go. Wish I could take you up on the offer but I think the wife will drag me to Tahoe again(bummer). Good luck on the sublet.

Lakes basin is a great place to be during the hot summer days. There are many lakes and rivers within minutes of packer, not mention plenty of other stuff to do as well. I would take you up on your offer but I got in-laws down the road in Downieville with a place to stay anytime. Anyone who has a week to spare would love that place. Good luck!

bing,
packer lake is in the gold lakes basin area. near downieville, and graegle. there are a bunch of lakes close by (within 10 mile radius). elevation is 6600, with most lakes at that elevation or higher.
there is the yuba river and american close by.
they have browns, brooks, and rainbows.

I;ve also driven up to the base of the Butte,s next to the stairs going up to the look-out and walked to edge of the cliff to take pics of Both Sardines and what a scarrrrryyyyy 4-wheel drive trip that was. Did not tell my wife how nervous I was going up or down. It was cool to take a pic of the PCT on mid decent. Cant find the web cam from the look-out anymore ?

No just up to the edge below the stairs and yes its still a quick drop down. Got a pic of Sierra City from the PCT stop point, good thing I had it in low 4wh drive and crawled down. At that vista view its also strait down with very few trees in the way to slow your trip to the river below. Pics are on my old comp. but I think I have prints to scan for the enjoyment(horror)for others.
