Arrived with Jetspray at Red Lake at 8:30. The weather was nice, perhaps too nice. There was no wind and the temps were 10 degrees warmer then the valley floor. There was some ice at the south east corner of the dam. We fished with gold Kastmasters, tube jigs, worms and Powerbait. The result was a skunk for both of us. There were lots of trout crusing the shore but they just weren't interested. Perhaps they are still spawning. Next headed towards Silver. On the way stopped to take a look at Caples. Caples was perhaps 7o% ice. There were clear spots in the middle and on the south shore east of the spillway. The warm weather if it persists may clear more ice. Fished Silver by the dam and in the main body south of Kay's. No joy. The entire lake is low but is free of any ice. It was shirt sleve weather.

Oh MAN... Red looks so tempting. I just love that little gem of a lake.

Wish it would freeze over already and quit taunting me...

Hello Richard, my friend fished Red yesterday and Lower Blue lake and caught quite a few brookies and rainbows in the 16-18'" range. The bite must have turned off or you just got to be patience with them.Just like the last week when I fished with you, my friend ended up with five he caught all males but the females were too busy doing their thing.

I just think it was position and presentation myself. Not the right place at the right time. Pleasure is just being there and enjoying the day. I picked up some of the trash that people were leaving but I just did not have enough room in my backpack. I think I'll get a bigger one....just wish that people would pick-up before leaving. Funny thing was I found a stogie cigar when I was picking up stuff and a fellow shows up with his dog (weenie dog) smoking a big stogie......hmmm...could it have been him?.....Jetspray

Well guys I knew it was too good to last. I really wanted to get one more trip up to Red but it isn't looking good.
I might actually have a chance this weekend but old mother nature will have to help out.
I love it up there and all but I don't want to drive up to look at ice. And of course driving up is not much fun with the #&@#$@ drivers that don't know mountain driving.
CC I will get in touch if the chance comes. Plus for an update on the current conditions if you happen into the are before the weekend.

Ooh, a little rough. The skunk happens sometimes to all of us. It is becoming that time of year where the skunks get a little more frequent.

CC, your no fair weather poster. Very commendable. I narrowly avoided the skunk today on the usual river with the usual method. Cold? Same sunny weather? fish are ready for winter? or just one of those days?

Was going on a road trip with the Mrs. today but she was feeling bad so went back up 88 for the afrernoon. Last year at this time I caught my biggest fish of the year at Red. This year? Ice. :'( Arrived at Red just before noon and found it mostly covered with Ice. Arrived just before noon. The entire dam area, the south shore and out in front of the boat launch area was ice. Thete was some clear water n the middle but with the cold temps that won't last long. Unless the weather gets really strange the ice should be here for a while. See you in the spring Red. Headed bak down to ICR. Fished the east shore just down with green Gulp and Kastmasters. Hooled a nice fish on the KM but in two jumps he threw the hook back at me. One hit on the Gulp but I was too slow. :-[ A sunny but cool day with a lite East wind.

Thanks CC for the scout trip. I guess the trip up to fish with you Saturday will have to wait until late May early June. Now it will be your turn to come down this way. I may still brave a trip up part way. Maybe one last trip to Bear River before it locks up too.
Well on that note, sleep well Red & Caples see you again in May.

Hey CC,
That was me in the aluminum boat out there today at ICR. Sloooow day. Dragged around everything in the book at all depths for no takers. Marked lots of fish though from top to bottom, mostly in the main body closer to the dam. Water temp was 40 degrees, which I don’t think helped. My guess is that without a bubbler and no weeds the oxygen is getting pretty low as well. Looks like they’re about to get the new one in though.

The entire dam area, the south shore and out in front of the boat launch area was ice.

I was just going to ask about the north side as it gets a bit more sun. But you answerd that ? Will see you at P-Fest in April.
