My Partner and I went striper fishing today and to our suprise, my Partner hooked and landed a 21'' "rainbow trout" on a 3/4 ounch Rat-L-Trap at the Deep Water Channel in Stockton. *This is the first time ever! *After a couple of photos she was released to find her way back to where she came from.

That sounds like a Steelhead. Good job landing it. How was the battle?

Yeah, maybe it was a steelhead. We weren't sure. She said the fight was awesome! The fish snatched the Rat-L-Trap and ran with it like a striper and jumped to shake the lure like a bass.

Steel Domer for sure .
Notice the rear fin clipped.? This is how they tell it is a hatchery or wild steelhead. Nice catch . I think it's a much better catch than a striper / Thanks for releasing it. I think you did the right thing. NICE ONE !

Yes I believe F&G considers any trout over 16" in the delta to ba a Steelhead. The report card ask, about the when where and all that stuff. If it was a wild one you are required to set it free. You can identify the wild ones because they still have the little fin on their back just in front of their tail. I forget the proper name of that fin, but I think you know which one I'm talking about. Nice catch, thanks for sharing. ;)

Yes, Roger is correct. Any Rainbow in the whole lower Sac. to Keswick dam over 16" is considered a Steelhead. There is a one fish limit for these with the clipped
adipose fin. :)

If any of you want to try for some around R.B., P.M. me. :D

Hey Roger, I think it's about time we get together and do a little fishin'. We also need to find a safe haven for all your vintage fishing paraphernalia. ;)
Tim as we speak, plans are being made on my home planet. We believe that your species just might be able to hang on to a sturgeon, and you are the chosen one, ::) I'll just give you the measurements for the Display case, you bring it down and we hit the river. J/K Tim, You tell me when you can fish, we will fish! 8-)
