How does the rain affect the bite for trout? I was thinking that it would shut down completely, then I noticed a thread in the Bass forum where guys are saying that they will fish the rain bite and that it might actually perk some activity in the Bass population. Is the same true of trout? If not I'm gettin' my Bass rod out and going for them, though I'd much prefer to hunt some trout.

Thoughts?

buzzbait - A light snowfall or rain shower can sometimes really turn on the trout bite. I've experienced both several times. Why this happens is anybody's guess, but it does happen.

Rain in my experience never really shut down the bite. In fact, it sometimes activated the bite. It could have been coincidence but I've had great days fishing in the pouring rain for trout.

I know that fishing has allways been better for me when it is overcast. I think rain adds more oxygen to the water making it more comfortable when they move around. ;)

Rain usually makes me add Baileys to the coffee and hang out at home....like today. ;)
The times that I have fished in a light to moderate rain it seems to have improved the bite. A hard rain seems to put them off the bite but it turns back on soon after the rain subsides.

Had a 40 fish day at Amador once and it was absolutely pouring rain all day long, but Iím pretty sure they just thought the raindrops were fish pellets.

we had one of the best bites ever while fishing at Silver Lake this spring in a steady snowstorm. *the snow stung too much while trolling so we stayed in the launch area:

Two years ago at Eagle lake the first day we fished at the end of Oct was slow. The next day it started snowing while we were trolling (I love fishing in the snow) and it seemed as the first snowflake hit the water the bite got red hot.
