Made the long run up with my 6 year old Friday eve. Didn't think it was even going to happen when after 10 min. into the drive my daughter starts crying saying she misses mommy. :'( Soooo I asked if she wanted to go home. Much to my surprise she said yes. Much to an even bigger surprise after we get home she says she wants to go fishing! ;D So after a 20 min. delay we are off.

When we saw Lundy I was blown away at how high the water level is. It's only about 30 yards from the tree line! Kind of thought it was going to be tough since I knew how far away some of the holes were from where I was used to fishing. Started fishing a tad before 8. About 15 min. later her little 2' rod gets bit. Was really surprised because it's so short it's really hard to cast. This is her fighting the fish.

She was pretty happy can you tell?

About an hour after that the wind started to howl down the canyon. Really ripping with nice white caps. Cold wind too so we packed up and left. So off we headed to Ellory (sp?) up at the top of Tioga Pass. I really expected it to be ripping wind there as well but it wasn't. Started fishing where we always do. Maybe 10 min. go by and her short rod gets bit again! :o Unfortunately I forgot to take pics here. Later my rod got bit but I let her reel it in. We stayed until 1 w/out catching another fish. Missed a couple on a fly though.

Went back down the mountain and was surprised at how warm it was from the top. Also a fair amount of wind. We went to Rush Creek but couldn't find the place I wanted to fish. Looks different with leaves on the trees compared to spring. Went to Silver Lake and it was howling. Daughter wanted to fish so we did. She just kicked back and ate cookies while I tried to fish in the wind. Finally I said lets go. On the way out she said she wanted to climb down the hillside to fish June. Did that but everytime I cast out it was getting snagged and breaking me off. >:( Finally I said lets go. Then we drove over to Convict and fished there for a bit. Nada. Tried a couple of other places off of 395. One was just a little pond not much bigger than a 10 person jaccuzi. Guy said people were pulling fish out left and right earlier. I didn't get bit and neither did they. People came back and promptly caught 4 fish in about 15 min. or so!! I hate that. It was the type of salmon eggs I guess. Green label something or other. Just about dark now and now my daughter wants to go home! Soooo we take off about 7 ish and get home around 11:30. Long day but worth it.

I'm amazed at how well she does on such long trips. In fact she really enjoys them.

Sounds like a great trip. Her smile tells it all. Thanks for sharing John. 8-)

Her smile says it all. Great job, she'll always remember that trip.

She pretty much remembers all the trips. Loves to fish. Just wonder how long that will last. Hopefully she'll be like her brother and keep on fishing and not like her sister who thinks Malls are the best thing around.

Forgot to mention that pretty much everyone I talked to had a tough day of fishing except at that last hole. Wasn't supposed to be windy according to the forecast either. That dry front moving through probably had a lot to do with it.
