We fished Twin Lakes (lower) on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. *It was pretty slow, we only ended up landing 3 planter rainbows between 10 - 12 inches. *All fish were caught toplining Kastmasters, although we did get bites at about 20 feet on a silver rapala, red and gold cripplure, and a flasher trailing a night crawler. *The lake is beautiful, especially when it is not windy, which seems to kick up about noonish.

Several Osprey around picking up fish on the top:

Here is one of the planters we caught, unfortunately no big browns this trip * :P

Hey GCinGV, thanks for the tip about the spawning kokanees. *We were in the lower lake, but there were still huge schools of them trying to get up through the creek to the upper lake. *They were all solid bright red and traveled around in schools of 20 - 50 fish. *It was amazing to see them all rush up at the same time and try to get past 3 inches of water in a tiny stream!

It's getting to the time of year when the bigger browns start getting frisky. Beautiful scenery at Twin Lakes, thanks for sharing.

We are almost packed and ready to leave Sat the 20th for a week on Upper Twin Lakes. Hopefully I will have good reports and lots of pics to share when we return. Never fished there this time of year and I can't wait..

Blue Lakes is 90 miles out of the way and they have several lakes that are better fishing within a few miles. ;)

If your going to Twin Lakes you should try the Virginia Lakes. Stop by Ken's Sporting Goods & they'll give you good info on the bite.

I'll be taking the family up to Twin next weekend, never been but the pix look awesome. We were going to hit as many of the local streams and lakes as possible.... do you guys think I need to take the boat, or is shore fishing ok? I'm just not sure about lugging the boat over 108 in my weak old truck.

Ken's is our first stop when we hit Bridgeport. We rented one of the Lakeshore cabins at Mono Village. Our front door is about 20 yards from the lake. We have stayed in the same cabin several times before and always done well. But, this was in July and the fish were smaller. We are going to rent a 15ft boat for the week instead of hauling ours over the pass. We did that one year and not to thrilled about repeating. We have talked about trying some of the streams and possibly Virginia Lake. We are taking all of our kokanee rigs. It would be nice to catch some of those. Our son is taking his smoker. I hope we get a chance to use it.
