Looking for a good trout lake for a fishing trip in late October. I would like it to be roughly at 3000 ft above sea level or so, or at least below the snow line for that time of year. Any help?

Yeah what jetspray said also everybody thinks Silver lake will be the place to go. I am not sure when it or if it closes so be sure to check that oput. This is due to the recent fish transplant from caples. Good luck.

Where are you from and how far are you willing to travel?

Sounds to me like Amador would be your cup of tea. Big fish, fairly easy to catch and below the snow-line.

Union Valley and Ice House are about 5500 ft in the elevation. They are typically pretty low by late October. I usually make a last trip to Silver in October. Otherwise as troutfan suggested you can try Amador. You might also think about Sly Park (4000 ft.) or New Melones.

I am from Sac. I like fishing Silver Lake, however the group I am going with complains about being cold as we typically stay somewhere for the entire week. I appreciate the responses...keep em coming please

A giant propane space heater works wonders!

Melones might be warmer but honestly there probably won't be much of a trout bite happening...maybe bass or catfish. Maybe Don Pedro? Its lower than 3000 though.
