Well, since pyramid is a mere 25 miles form my front door & we have a 19' fishing boat with 2 downriggers - I want to learn how to fish pyramid!

No live bait, single barbless hooks - I know what much - what should i buy to get my tackle box ready for when it opens up??

I caught my only one's on Apex watermellon's. I don't carry alot of my usual stuff up there though, just a box full of stuff perpared for the lake. I'll need to follow the fella's around myself too. I'm 105 miles away. Make sure you stop at the stores on the outskirts to get your permits/camping stuff. Your last bet will be Crosby's.......Jetspray

It sounds like you have everything you need except for the lures. * *Alot of these tackle hounds discuss which lure is the best and they buy a vast assortment of different types of lures. *When the LCT are in the strike zone you will do just fine with an assortment of Apexes in the 5.5" size if you are trolling. *Rainbow, Clown and Frog patterns are all good under different conditions at certain times of the year. *If you do a search on Pyramid and Docstressor you will find the most precise information on what they will bite when and why. *From shore a variety of spoons will work. *I once saw a novice fisherman casting from shore at the Marina with a tiny Mepps spinner and I watched him catch a nice 8.5 lbr. *When it comes to LCT, if you are in the right place at the right time they will hit most anything which is why nobody uses flashers. *They hit those too! *Now that Ocotber is approaching you will see a plethora of information. *There are many on this board who will keep us updated on the conditions at Pyramid. *Read what Doc says as he will give you some very good advice. *The Trout FAQS thread has several links to some good Pyramid info as will all the fest threads which are stickied at the top of the board. **Good luck.

No live bait, single barbless hooks

The hooks have to be barbless but they don't have to be single unless they have changed the rules from last year.

*Read what Doc says as he will give you some very good advice. *

Doc will write and publish a thesis on the subject but then come out and say this:

You don't need no stinkin' secret lures. Everything works at Pyramid in October.

So, read a little and pick a couple things that look pretty to you. ;)

Doc's information is very valuable because he is very accurate on where and when to get the fish. *The man knows where those Cutts hang out when they are on the feed. *He also recommends a few key colors which emulate the baitfish or small cutts as these trout are very cannibalistic.
*;)

Tony, I won't argue with you but I know a number of us that have caught a ton of fish on lures that Doc said wouldn't work because they only work on cloudy days. Fire Tiger in the bright sunshine of the 2006 fest comes to mind. ;) Seriously, Doc has spent a lot of time on that lake and does know the trends. Some times the fish don't follow his pattern. ;D

No need to argue but Doc knows more about that Lake than anyone else on this board, especially you. Heck you didn't even know when you had a twelve pounder in the net! ;D ;D We've both caught some big fish and I've spent hundreds of hours on that lake. I know when and where to catch them and Doc just explained why they bite where and when they do. I've found him to be right on the money most of the time. But if somebody wants to go spend hundreds on lures for Pyramid, more power to them but it just isn't necessary. ::) As doc said," You don't need no stinkin' magic lure!" ;D ;D ;D

There are always favorite lures people use, 20 guys might tell you 20 different lures and they will all produce on any given day.
You probably already have lures in your tackle box that will catch fish.
Heck, you could probably just put a hook on a small dodger and catch fish.
My biggest fish has come on a red spoon with black dots, so what do you think I'm going to say my favorite lure is? ;)

I tell lies to certain people. ;)

You just need to know when to take me seriously. 8-)

You can take that to the bank. 8-)

Generally it's harder to find a lure that won't catch fish. I have my favorites but everything someone threw out on my boat caught fish! ;)
As Doc would point out the bite really comes down to chub numbers and size as well as water conditions such as temp. ;)
My council to a Pyramid Newbie would be about the dangers of the lake and watching the weather. If the fish are there in numbers and the bite is on the rest will take care of itself. ;)

But as mentioned before you dont need any magic lures. *Everything works at Pyramid. *Thats why you need to have AT LEAST ONE of everything ;)

You dont really even need to know what good colors are either my 4 year old boy proved that. Scroll through the pictures on my signature for the proof. My last time to Pyramid all I did was rig up the poles drive the boat and run the down rigger. Skyler picked out the color of lure and did everything else.

That's a nice selection of lures you got there PK. Let's hope the Cutts are in the mood in October this year. 2008 has been off in many of the local waters.

Beth,

It sounds like the "Club" is growing every day. It will not be much of a "secret" very long.
