Unless they all go to the middle of the lake and hide on the bottom 1/2 will be killed by sport water craft by the end of next weekend. >:(

I fished there all day Sunday from the shore without a bite >:(
They have put almost 30,000 fish in this month alone, how do you catch them??

Are those stock-and-grow fingerlings, standard planters, or Alpers? Just curious. Mark

The trout they planted are 8 inchers and the jet skis won't affect them much at all. *Topaz is a put and grow lake and any fish you catch over 14" won't be a roundtail, it's a holdover unless you catch one of the marina's pen fish. *They have never stocked Alpers at Topaz and both California and Nevada stock sub-catchables. *They'll grow about half an inch per month. *Last year for the opener sucked, the year before we slayed them. *So let's hope for a repeat of two years ago.

If we get a wet winter we will be able to go up the river in June and the fishing is as good as it gets. 8-)

TF, Are you sure they never have? I read on the website (which of course can be wrong) the stocking schedule of Alpers. Now I don't want to get you mad, because I plan on picking your brain a little before my trip, as it seems you may have some useful information for me to get used to these high sierra lakes. ;) Heres when the Topaz website says they planted Alpers.....

TF is correct. They don't stock Alpers in Topaz Lake. The schedule of Alpers stocking refers to the W. Walker River. Topaz in the link refers to the town of Topaz which is on the W. Walker River. They do stock some jumbo pen fish in Topaz late in the year for the Jan 1 opener and some have tags worth serious $$. :)

Thanks CC for the correction. I hope TF isn't mad for trying to be smart just once. ;D I have no idea about the fishery, and don't have time to look for a map at work, but do those trout ever make it into Topaz?

and by the way CC, did Mrs. Compassion share any of that bounty with her guide? ;)

I don't think they can. Topaz is on sort of a side canal off of the West Walker that doesn't directly flow into the lake. TF knows this place. Last year I stated thet they were Browns in the lake and he corrected me so don't feel bad.

She bought me lunch and a beer or two at the Topaz Lodge. 8-)

Hey Troutfan! If the river looks navigable next June, for my boat, I'll throw on an old prop and we'll go play! Or is it better to try drifting down stream from one of the bridges above in a kayak or?
You convinced me with the ice chest picture! It looks like my first kayak load from lake Amador.
Just give me a heads up and I'm there! Mark

When the lake gets high enough we just go in from the lake and we've had some boats your size up there so let's hope for a wet one.
If we get over 100 % normal precipitation we should be able to do it Mark. *Plan on it.

Opening day I will be fishing from shore on my friends property on the Northwest side of the lake. Usually alot less people than all the public areas. You're always welcome Mark, just drop me a PM. ;)

Troutfan;

Here is hoping that we don't have as much problems with the "shifting
Ice" next season. ;)

Only 150 days...............
