View Full Version : Blue, Caples, Bear 06/21

Hit the road at 4:30am, first stop Upper Blue.
The water was beautiful.
The scenery as well. My personal photographer got great shot of the moon setting.
Went out on my toon while she went shooting nature. Fished upper for about 1 1/2 hours. Two good solid bumps both on gold little cleo, with no hook set.
Next we stopped at the inlet of middle creek into Lower Blue. hiked up and found fish in some of the pools. Schools of those red striped sucker fish with some rainbows mixed in.
They weren't real active, tried 3 or 4 different baits and a dozen lures but they would only chase about 1 in 30 offerings.
Lower was looking beautiful too. Campground were looking pretty loaded up.
Off to Caples, was pretty windy so decided to bank it. Only stayed for a little bit out on my favorite point. Gold acme thunderbolt was the ticket.
Fish on...
After lunch at Kirkwood we made a quick stop at Bear River Reservoir. Fished towards the dam for about 20 minutes, caught 2 in my little special rock shelf both on little cleo again, kept one.
Several thunder storms rolled in and we even saw a touch of rain.
Brought one from Bear and one from Caples home for dinner.
A great 12 hour day in the hills.

Impressive day CG. The fishing has been a little slow in the area but the scenery is as wonderful as ever. Tell he Mrs. that her pics are super.

great pictures CG! did you happen to notice if the upper Blue campground is open yet?

Lower and Middle Creek CG were open and mostly full but they still had a sign up saying that the Upper CG is closed.
Looks like they are doing quite a bit of erosion control work along the hillside on the road up. Trenches dug with straw bales buried in them and some cover sand and gravel piles. We didn't go all the way to the camp, found a good spot to put in before we got there.

After looking again it looks like I mislabeled one pic. The next to last pic is not Lower Blue it is actually Woods Lake. Didn't fish there we just stopped in for a quick visit. Still one of the prettiest lakes up that way.
Stonesfan, you aren't kidding. Some people just don't know that it is there and 100 miles away.
What a place to spend the day.

Thanks Yak,
My wife takes the photo cred as high praise coming from someone with your history of great pics.
Yes it sure is nice to escape 100 degrees and go to 80 instead.
