Get to the check in station, showed them my pass from yesterday at Pardee. Doesn''t matter any more. No more seven day free passes!! Get inspected ok. Head for the ramp!! Launched boat and get back into the truck, notice something rolling around the dash board. Yep!!! You guess it!! The drain plug. This is the second time this year. Pulled boat out and waited a good 15 mins. before it all drained out!! This time the whole floor board was coved in water. Needed a cleaning. Finally get to little hat island. Start putting out gear. First a Brook Trout F-9, then a Hot Steel. Down 25' and 30'. Not long the top one goes off. Little planter. Then a little later, the bottom one goes off. Pretty good bite most of the day. Then at 11:30 the top one ends up in the water. I knew it was going to be a good one. Weighed in at 6.3 lbs. Then about an hour later, It goes off again. This one weighs in at 5.1 lbs. Caught over 13 - 15 fish. Got off the lake around 3. Released all others to fight again. Most of the fish were caught between the south corner of the dam, to little Hat. Stayed in at least 80' of water. Going back in forth from the island to the spillway and along the dam. There was hardly no one out there today. Had the lake mostly to myself. Then around 11:00, the lice came out. Really not that bad.

Lures: Rapala's in F-9 (Brook Trout, Orange/Gold, Hot Steel)
Depths: 25' - 39'
Speed: 2.5 - 2.9
Areas: Little Hat - Spillway - Dam
Scents: Smelly Jelly ( Shad )

Put out 115' of set back, then down 32' (on bottom one)
Put out 125' of set back, then down 25' (on top one)

Here are some Pictures...

Great job Robbie. That one trout looks like QuasiModo.(spelling?) As always "you da man".

Yeah I have seen a tail on a trout like that before,,, It belongs to certain Sub-species of Rainbow Trout, My friends and I call it a Western Round Tail.... nice big fish though! It is always fun to get a big fish over five pounds and being at Camanchee it always possible to get one over 10 lbs. It seems the big bruisers do put up a pretty good fight out there, especially this time of the year when they start to gather in the colder deeper water.

wow ! now I am beating myself up , I was going to run up their and putt around since I knew you were going ,but decided to do some much needed boat work instead.
those are some nice fish,
how are you cooking them? do you smoke them?
I installed a new antenna and a new fuse block today.
I think that will solve my quirkey radio problem and my fishfinder suddenly shutting off for no aparent reason

What time did you get out there? I'm still hurting from yesterday! ;D It's just a hop and a skip for you to get there, which is very nice. Looks like you did pretty good compared to the slow bite a pardee. Dude, the drain plug again!! I'm gonna chain one to your boat, so this will not happen again ;D ;D ;D ;D It happens to eveyone who fishes as often as we do.Thanks for the visual on the Rapala's, I did not think hot steel would be that color. Till the next fishing trip, have a good one and see you soon

Better put a plug on your boat key chain. You won't start the boat without seeing it. Nice fish and report.

Thanks for posting a picture of your fish and lures.

Congratulations on a great day Robbie.... should have followed your lead there instead of boiling in the heat of Melones chasing a couple kokes all day.

real nice fish rob........but where do you get those shorts ?? ;D

05-19-2008, 02:56 PM
Chadzilla, I notice there wasn't a lot of posting about Melones this weekend. Guess it was pretty tough. I caught a lot of rainbows at Camanche. Should of came up. Pretty much had the lake to our selves.

crank bait, Like those shorts ;D ;D ;D I have only about 20 different kinds of board shorts. When we got the new boat, i tried to get shorts the same or near same color. I have a Board Short problem. I know it. Is there a 12 step program, somewhere?
