Left Minden at 5:30 AM arrived Red Lake 6:00. It was a beautiful drive up 88 through Hope Valley with frost on the sage and a low fog on the meadow. Started with a 1/4 oz gold Kastmaster off the dam. First fish at 6;07. A beautiful 19 inch 2LB+ LCT. Fellow Sniffer CGAGEX3 arrived at 6:45 wanting to be the first on Red with a toon this year. I believe he was. The weather was perfect for it. Little to no wind and not so cold. By the time I left CG was still out there with 8 *Brookies so far. I caught a total of 8 fish, 7 Brooks and the Cutt. 4 were caught on the Kastmaster and 4 on Green Gulp. I invited 5 fat red meated Brookies home for dinner. All the trout look as to be in very good shape after 5 months under the ice. It may be a very good year at Red. Nice hooking up with you again CG. See you in a couple of weeks.

A man after my own heart....!!

Nothing like fresh brookies cooking. ;)

I might hit it in July, when I visit the summer cabin again.

Finally got that green stuff to work, huh" ;D ;D ;D

Fished from about 7 to 11. In 4 hours landed 12 fish, all brookies. Took a few home for dinner let the rest loose to get bigger. Cleaned them up and they are beautiful orange meat inside.
I guess I am going to have to wait for the next trip to catch my first cutt for the year.

Stopped by Caples for a short bank shot on the way down the hill. The water is clear out to the usually submerged island down by the spillway.

Anybody out there still wonder why I love it up here.

guess I will stick with Silver and Red lakes then. there were no envelopes to put the launch fees in at Silver Lake. I guess they only collect from Memorial day to Labor day as there were no envelopes last fall either.

Alright Captain, you get around, Manzanita Lake and Highway 44 one day, then Highway 88 and Red Lake the next. Might be time to get the Jon Boat down there. Love those brookies, looks like you let the cutt go, good decision, they are awfully awful tasting. ;)

Great reports CC and CG along with some great pics. What a beautiful lake. We haven't been there for a while now that we can no longer float tube. Still a pretty place to go to fish and camp though.

I ran back up the hill this morning only this time went to Red Lake. got there at 6:20 to cloudy skies and blowing wind. set up and caught a nice 12" brookie on a gold Kastmaster (thanks Captain!). ended up losing that Kastmaster and about 5 others. finally used different power baits and landed 3 more for a total of 4 for the morning. when I left at noon there were white caps on the water. Red Lake and Silver Lake were ice free and Caples looked like it was 95% frozen still.
