arrived at 6:50am. very windy (30mph). There was long waiting line before the gate. Took 20 minutes to check in. Set up my 1st rod at south cove at about 7:30am and got my first hit within 5 minutes. It was a nice 3.5 lb rainbow. got my 2nd and 3rd small 1 lb. rainbows before 8:20am. The 4th one was even smaller and I let it go. Then started playing catch and release. got a 2.5 LBer after 9:00am. Too many small fishes. Stopped counting when I got the 12th. The guy with his son on my left limited out with nine 1 LBers. and one 3 LBer at about 11:00pm. Then the guy on my right limited out with five 2- LBers too. I finally got my 7.65 Lb at 11:30am and decided to leave. At the fish cleaning station, I met a guy with a hug trout. He said it's a bit under 10 LB.

It's a fun day. Almost everybody had the limits.

Wow, great day fishing. Did the wind die down ever? What were most people catchin them on? I take it they just stocked the lake?

still very windy. You may check:

I was using poweregg+powerworm comb. My neighbors were using power bait. Right, 5000 Lb trouts were stocked yesterday afternoon.

Great job Robert! I'm going to have to visit LV sometime soon. Nice pics!

Ken, you may cast the bait farther than you usually do. I set up two rods with same bait. one is about 20 feet from shore. another 40 feet. The deeper one had less bites but got the biggest trout.

I was also there 3/16. Arrived at the gate 1/2 hr before opening, and was the 13th car in line. Anyone who knows Vasco Rd knows it's not the safest road to be pulled off on the side of in the dark. They should look into setting the gate farther off from the main rd.

Anyways, poles in the water around 7:30. I had a mile long list of honey-do's that day, so I made my mind up to take the first 5 fish, and that only took 1 hr 45 min. Had 3 LDR's mixed in with the 5 I kept. I was using p. egg/crawler combo on 1, p/ egg only on other. Would have been a nice day to hurl some lures and catch and release some lip-hooked fish, but with the wind blowing sideways and guys 10 yds apart it wouldn't have been a good idea. Most fish I saw caught by my party and others were small 10-12", I don't think they will last long after released being tired out. (Can you say striper time?)

It was VERY windy out there even by Vaqueros standards, but still all in all a very easy day to catch the planters. After not planting for over almost 2 months, it's nice to see some fish going into the lake again.
