Buck Deaner of Fisherman's Warehouse in Fresno said trout fishing continues to hold up on shad colored Slim Fins or ExCels behind a Sling Blade or Vance's Dodger at 20-30 feet. The best action for trout has been from the surface to 30 feet, 40-60 feet for king salmon. Most boats found small limits in the 6-pound range at the WON Bass tournament over the weekend. Larry Kerns of the Visalia Bass Club found most fish at 35-42 feet by drop-shotting or jigging shad-colored plastics. Deaner reported main lake points and walls at 30-80 feet will produce small fish on shad-colored plastics or jigs. The lake came up to 28% capacity. The lower Kings below the Dam continues to receive weekly trout plants, including the trophy Kamloops fish on a biweekly basis until March. Deaner recommended Shad Raps in green back or firetiger for the large fish. The bite holds from 6:45-7:45 a.m. before dying. Some anglers have landed as many as three of the trophies per session.
