I was at lake Tulloch for 3 days this past weekend with Great weather and a great time camping with friends. We got in on thursday night at 9:00pm and set up camp and headed to the campfire for some drinks and to get warm.
Friday morning came we got on the water lake 8:00am it was cold but sunny. We fished the poker flat area and up the bridge all weekend. We set lines at 13ft and 23ft on the downriggers and ran seps sideplanners all weekend 75 to 150ft behind the boat.Lures of choice for the weekend were Shad for the bigger fish and Excels,Apexes in shad color so were seps sidekick dodger with a craler 12"behind the dodger. We cought 11fish fri including a nice 18-1/2 bow that went 2.8lbs.
Satuarday morning it was smaller fish from 12" to 16" that were all chatch and release(12) except for two bleeders.
Satuarday Afternoon Richard went out with me because Mario just wanted to take a nap. This was Richards first time in my boat i said if it is your first time in my boat you geto reel all the fish in.
So we ran up to the bridge and dropped the lines it took a few minutes to get a fish and then we had 3 in the boat.We were running a rolled shad at 25ft on the wire injected with pro-cure shad sause.I glannced over at the downrigger rod and it bounced twice and relesed than doubled over and started stripping line.I handed Richard the pole and said it a good fish.We got it to the boat after two hard runs it was a nice Brown Trout that went 3lbs.cought a few more and relesed them.
Sunday got on the lake at 7:00am fished till 11:00am.Cought 9 releseing all but a nice 3lb Rainbow.
A great weekend with friends.

Nice pics and report. Looks like mother nature sure was helpful, can tell by the water behind you that the lake looked good.
I can always handle the cold in my pontoon, it's the wind that is a killer.
Clear sunny sky, flat water, great fishing and camping with friends. It doesn't get much better than that.

Great weekend and to share all the fish with your friends is even better! I've never been to that lake, just driven by it going to pedro or mcClure.
Nice brown and bow, How fast do you troll your shad at that lake and do you use a dodger, if yes , how long a leader? Thanks

Great report and pics. Nice fish! I got to try those rolled shad sometime.

Troutwagon i troll my shad with no Dodger most of the time and run it at 1.2 to 1.7 mph.

Nice job Chris!

Good job [smiley=thumbsup.gif], that is a really nice brown. I think Tolluch is doing better than Melones or Pedro. That lake has been consistantly turning out hard fighting fish close to 3 lbs.

Hey Chris,

Nice fish. I've yet to catch a Brown. Now I could kick myself for not being up there on Friday with you guys. Talk to you later.

Thanks for the response. I'll try that lake some day, but for now I'll let you guys catch the fish ;) Keep those lines wet!

I'm telling ya, it's the shad. 8-) That lake can be fickle, and you made the most of your time there. Beautiful Brown! Take care...

01-22-2008, 05:53 PM
Swwweeet !! 8-)

So, that's where ALL the fish from Melones went!! ;)

That's the first good report I've heard comming out of that lake..

Maybe I'll have to float there next time...With my luck though, by the time I'll get there, it'll be done ! ;)

Thanks for the report !!! 8-)

Looks like you had 2 boats working up there.
Did you troll up to the bouy lines below New melones dam?
There are acouple of nice dream homes up there.
Back in NOV. i had a double up in that real narrow section
with hogs.Talk about a real cluster you no what.Boat side ways
with 20' to spare on each side. Now i call it the canyon of doom.
Maybe ill get up there in a couple of weeks.

Great job up there on a tough lake. Wide variety of fish, with some real beauties. I am sure you guys had a blast...

I was meaning to ask you, where you launched from? Looked like the docks by the Kiva's in the one shot, but not sure.

01-25-2008, 06:26 PM
We launched and camped at southshore.

Actually Tulloch is probably one of the first area lakes to turn over every year because it gets its water straight from the bottom of New Melones. *We caught a ton of trout at about 5 feet in mid october.

nice job and what a fun weekend :D that would be a blast catching all of those fish in 2 days

Was there that Sunday as well. Left the lake with 7 BEAutiful bows to 2 lbs. Nothing huge, but was great catching for once! Saw you on the water in front of the hotel, at that point, you'd had 2 for the day, so you said ;) Was trolling 1.9 pulling needlefish. Something about Tulloch, the quality of fish is far superior to most non-sierra lakes. All fish when cleaned had shad in gullets.... That should be the tip for those of you heading to Tulloch.

Tight, wet lines,
