When using excels,slim fins or
needlefish. Is it always tipped with a
piece of crawler or are you guys/gals
running them naked. Dad forgot that part during
the birds and the bees conversation ;D

I usually start naked.

I usually start out naked. If things are slow and desperation starts to set in, I start tipping with a very small piece. Warning, when you tip, make sure the weight of the night crawler chunk doesn't take all the action out of the lure.

I usually start with a crawler, I am not above tipping the hook with white corn too. Like SuperDave said "check the action of the lure".

I never put a crawler on a lure thats supposed to look like a shad imitation !! Just put on some Shad Gel or Krill Gel. Just my two cents!!! When you put on a crawler it does mess up the action!!

Mickey and I had great luck with crawler tips on Lymans at New Melones. we fished all morning for nothing. As soon as the crawler tips went on, we lit them up.

I always carry a box of mini crawlers just in case they are needed.Sometimes just that 1/4 crawler brings the bite around.

Thank you for the info.Run them naked
and if you need apiece of crawler
do not bother asking cptdarel for any.
I use to be anti worm myself.

Sometimes just a small piece is all that's needed to get the fish to bite. I've had great luck tipping Needlefish at Commanche with small pieces of crawler.
