Well I had a great day with SuperDave, too bad the the fishing wasn't what I expected after my shore trips. http://www.fishsniffer.com/forumsyabb2006/Templates/Forum/default/sad.gif for 8 hours of fishing we caught 3 fish!

All of our fish were taken in the channel in 24' feet of water from 14-17' down. 1 one a WM dodger w/crawler, 1 one a pin minnow silver w/blue tint and a grub, Dave will have to say what color, cause I forgot! I had one huge take down on the dodger/crawler combo, kapoow the rod tip almost hit the water, but it was gone as soon as it hit. http://www.fishsniffer.com/forumsyabb2006/Templates/Forum/default/angry.gif

The most amazing thing of the day, was I found out Clamkin & I are blood relatives! http://www.fishsniffer.com/forumsyabb2006/Templates/Forum/default/cool.gif! WTH, who has ever caught these while trolling a dodger crawler combo! http://www.fishsniffer.com/forumsyabb2006/Templates/Forum/default/huh.gif

Or to shallow, the bottom comes up very fast in some parts of the bay! Dave was driving. http://www.fishsniffer.com/forumsyabb2006/Templates/Forum/default/rolleyes.gif http://www.fishsniffer.com/forumsyabb2006/Templates/Forum/default/grin.gif

Dave told me he caught all three Chico ;) salid he had to bait your hook and when the bites hit he set the hook for you and handed you the rod ;D ;D Nice pic's though, at least when you don't catch fish you have your hands free to take pic's 8-) Good job on the craw dad, but I think you'll need a few more to get the pot boiling ;) Send it to "fish writer", I think it's a cover shot for the sniffer ;D ;D ;D

We were using the "full moon" card by mid day. At the ramp, boaters coming out said that hadn't caught anything and we saw a Smokercraft boat only one so we felt pretty successful. It was fun having Shawn on my boat for the first time. Any time I can spoil a guy and make him be unsatisfied fishing on his own boat is a good time. ;D

The basin is a strange body of water to fish. There is a bowl right out from the ramp that is 24' deep. If you go 10' too far and you are in 2.5' of water. The crawdad came at the end of the day when we got a little desperate on put on the painter pole to cruise the shoreline.

Regarding the fish we did catch, these fish are ferocious. They absolutely inhale the bait or lure. After that, there is a lot of jumping and tail walking.

I was at the afterbay yesterday also and i did notice that the water was up from last Saturday.
I fished mainly around the bridge and levee area with 3 fish total for the day.
Plus a few LDRs and fish that just shook the hook as i was reeling them in.
I seen a boat in the channel and now i know who it was.
Dave.
Like you i was kinda surprised how the depth of the water would go up and down as fast as it did.
I had my Sister with me,and when she caught her first fish it was great to see the excitement in her face as the fish was just ripping line the closer it got to the boat.Just like last Saturday we caught our's on a copper silver dodger pulling a crawler at about 2 colors out with the lead core.
Sorry i didn't get a chance to boat on over and say hi but after 7 hours on the water it was time to head back to Sacto.
I hope to make one more trip before the years over.Just to catch a fish like that is just awsome.

Well, two sniffers on the water and no radio contact ::) Bob, do you have stars on your ride? :D Are those fish Rainbows or land locked Steelies?

Mickey.
Here is the story on my boat.
My Brother in Law has two boats. One is a 17ft fisher which he keeps in his garage and only has room fot it.The other is the 14ft Valco that i have in my back yard but use and maintain it as if it were mine.Ive had the boat for about 3 years so i kinda consider it mine.
I wanted to put stars on it but he say's no.So no stars.
The fish my Sister and i caught were Steelies .I Pinch the barbs on my hooks and we kept one fish apiece out of the 3 we boated.I don't have a marine radio ,or i would have shouted out to Dave.
I do hope to upgrade to a bigger boat in the near future.Just got to pay some other toys off first.

Whatever they are, they sure are pretty. They have a thousand well defined black dots on their back. The place got crowded at time yesterday and I don't see the fish lasting another year without the planting.

Bob, we went out to work the rock wall at your recommendation from last weekend. The area we were in was only 6' deep and there were lots of weeds so we headed back to the deep water. Chico was afraid to go over by the bridge because he thought the duck hunters were going to shoot at us. ::) ;D

Good job guys. I was wondering how your day would turn out fish wise. At least you had action, crawdad included ;D *Chico, Did he take any drag out ??? [smiley=rotfl2.gif]

The crawdad didn't really fight until it got in the boat. Chico really wanted that piece of worm back. ;D

No, the ramp is good and the water is 20' deep as soon as the boat is off the trailer.

Dave,

Does this mean that Chico will have a bigger/better boat by the Salmon Fest in July?

Dave.
I'm not real good with directions at times, sorry. But you did catch fish and that is a good thing.
I agree that these fish are a beautiful fish. It's cool just to boat one and look at the spots and colors for a short while. And as far as agressive ,man what a hard hitting, fighting fish.Just to catch and release them is good enough for me.
I agree that this fishery won't last long since thier isn't going to be a plant next year.
And not everyone will C&R or use a barbless hooks ,thier will be those who will catch thier limit which will kill the fish population real fast.I know that the females will spawn and hopefully keep it going but i doubt it.It would be sad to see the afterbay fished out due to fishing greed as i call it.
When i was launching i seen the duck hunters also and wonderd what the heck.Kinda neat fisherman and duck hunters on the same water.I guess untill someone get's lead in thier arse.

SuperDave!

I was in the Smokercraft on Saturday 11/24/07. *I chatted with you or your buddy at the ramp before dropping in. *My father-in-law and I went 6 for 7 with an additional takedown that did not stick. *Five of the six were the steelhead (missing adipose fin) and one was a planter rainbow. *Smallest was 16", the largest 18" (the one we netted by you early in the channel). *Sorry, no pics, but everyone that has caught them knows they are fat as footballs! *See you there again on 12/1?

Happy trails, Mike

Hello Mikespyke, way to go on the catch out there. I've banked it a couple times with no luck and will also be out there this w/e in my 17' alumaweld. Which launch ramp to u use? I was going to troll for a bit then maybe anchor up and try some PB on the bottom.

Howdy BuckFish!

I launched at the Wilbur Rd access. *It was my first time on the afterbay. *We trolled the entire time and worked the channel for the first 2-3 hours and hooked three fish. *After that, we headed out into the unknown and picked up our fish here and there - no single hotspot.

Happy trails, Mike
