Hadn't been fishing in a week. Had to go. Arrived at Red 6:40. Found ice. I found a little channel and got around 5 casts before that closed up. See you next year Red. :'( Arrived ICR 7:35. Fished by the dam until around 9:00. Nothing on bait or Kastmaster. Some locals around 200 yds down the shore were hammering them on Powerbait and worms. Decided to go home, do some work, have some lunch and return in the afternoon. Returned around 1:00 and fished by the dam. Caught two Bows, 14" and a fat 17 incher. Sweet afternoon.

I use a stiff 6 1/2 foot rod with 6# test or more. The rod I use at ICR or Red is the same rod I use at Pyramid. I was using bait today on my wife's rod. 6 1/2 foot medium action with 4# test.

Well Capt. I guess that makes it official, the freeze is on. :'(
I guess I will be back up that way about Father's Day weekend. I am thinking I need to run up to Thermalito this weekend and give it a try. Just got back from Oceanside today and actually thought about going fishing but we weren't home till after 9 am and after a reception party last night and getting up at 3 am to go to breakfast and hit the airport at 5am I needed to crash for a while.
Now I just need to get through 4 days of work till I can hit the water again.
Drop a line here or pm me if you head down this way. Between Amador, Camanche and even Seco on a good day there is plenty of good fishing to be had if you come to the Valley. I know you have ICR still and then Pyramid without having to deal with the summit. Good fishing till then.

Time to sharpen up those blades on the ol' auger ;) I haven't ice fished in the last couple of years, but my bro-in-law and I are already talking about getting a few trips together this season. Keep us posted on the ice!
BTW...nice fish, as usual ;)

Nice fish Cap'n. Its amazing how quickly the ice forms. A week ago it was ice free. Though I know it got cold over the last week. We headed to Mason Valley for geese on the 24th and the thermometer in my truck read 5 degrees :o Actually burned my nose and cheeks and no geese either :'(

Nice fish cc. Im pretty broken up about Red, but now I get to go exploring again. I guess the smaller lakes will freeze first???
I know theres some big lakes up there, and that it gets pretty windy at times. Do you recomend ICR for a 8' pontoon with a small minnkota?
The pontoon is pretty stable, but I have never had it in big water or anything more than a breezy day at Red. The other morning, it looked like tsunami warnings at Caples, but late in the day it was flat as, well, a lake. I guess itsa craps shoot any day?

A couple of warmer days and nights with some could break it up a little but nit much.

I don't see why a 8' toon wouldn't work there. Lots of tubers out on the weekends. Neat trolling machine. Check the weather at Woodfords, Ca. If the wind is above 15 MPH from the South or West forget about it. If the wind is light or from the North or East launch near the dam. The lake isn't all that big. In the spring, summer and early fall you can launch from the boat ramp near the CG.

Nice, I ll have to give it a try. My only thing is the wind chop. It ll definatly run my battery down, and its NO fun to row against the wind. I guess I gotta go buy a second battery. ;D

Today there was no wind and no chop. Just 12 degree cold.
