First stop Red Lake. Caught 1 14 inch Brookie on a Gold Kastmaster. Not as good as yesterday but any day you catch a fish at Red is a good day. Second stop Silver Lake. Fished by the dam with no success with my gold Kastmaster. The lake was low and looked a little sad but some folks are having great results from there. On over the MET to Sly Park (Jenkinson). Fished the second dam. No luck here. One other fisherman there was also skunked. The lake was real low but there was lots of deep water. Perhaps again later in the fall. On up 50 to Kybers where I took the Silver Fork Road. I was told by someone that this was a beautiful area and boy they weren't lying. Drove around 4 miles up to China Flat CG. It was closed but we parked the car and took a walk. I sat on a rock by the Silver Fork of the American River and watched this one trout feed. I hope the pictures of Mrs. Compassion can portray the beauty. These are for you Mr Ed.

Capt,
Glad you had a nice trip. *Sorry you didn't catch any fish at my local little lake but they'll be planting some big browns here in the next couple weeks and a few more times throughout the winter. That water you were casting into by the buoys is 135' deep right now at the 4th buoy. *Thant's why there is always a chance of catching a Mack but it's usually a little closer to winter. *Did you follow Silver Fork Road back up to MET or did you drive back down to 50 and work your way around that way? *Even if you didn't catch tons of fish I'm still envious, because you got to see some beautiful country.
Nice Post.

Ok now Capt. understand that I am only 43 and not a lottery winner so I still have to work for a living.
I guess that I just have to live vicariously through your postings since retirement is still very far away. :'(
I really am thinking another trip up the hill is due before the freeze comes in. Mid-June and the Father's Day ice out is just to long to wait to go back up there.
In case I don't make it thanks for the pics and keep them coming.

Great pics and report capt way to go!

Stocking big Browns? I'd sure be interested in where and when. I liked the spot. Deep, good access. I did see some trout feeding on the surface and what I believed to be Bass rolling by the dam. I did note that the Silver Fork road went to the MET. Is it paved all the way? I loved the CG and I was surprised that no one was fishing the River. There seemed to be lots of fish. I thought about going back for my rod but I was enjoying the walk too much.

The Captain is not fully retired. Being an independent DP/IP cousultant I do have to work but I have very flexable working hours and I work no more than 20 hours a week. Mostly nights and weekends. Most of my customers are back East and all I need is wide band internet and I can work. If I win the lottery I wouldn't work. 8-)

That is the Silver Fork of the American River. The China Flat Camp Ground is on the Silver Fork road that runs South from Highway 50 at Kyburz.

Mrs. C takes great picture Capt. You should bring her more often ;D It is a blessing to live so close to the Eastern Seirra! ;) I am glad to see you left some fish in Sly for JMatt. He is pretty protective of his lake ;D Looking forward to the 10th. Thanks for the show Capt.

Hey Capn: the Silver Fork road is paved all the way to MET. There's even a better campground past China Flat...Silver Fork campground is another 5 or 6 miles past China Flat. Cheers!

MET is the Mormon Emigrant Trail that runs from just West of Silver Lake on Highway 88 to Sly Park. The next campground is about 6 miles south of China on the Silver Fork Road.
