My buddy and I headed up to Eagle Lake this weekend and what a trip! It was my friend's first time fishing Eagle and my first fall trip. I have been fishing there the last couple summers and have always had a blast. We went with my usual guide, Tom Muller of Eagle Lake charters. Tom knows this lake very well (he lives there) and really knows how to get those ELTs.

We arrived Saturday afternoon and made a quick trip out on the boat for a couple of hours in the evening to survey the killing field. Tom had taken Alan Bonslett out earlier that day and he said they caught a 4 pounder so I was ready to catch a fatty. We had a bite and one LDR but I kept setting the hook too early for these tricky fish. The water was too flat for a decent bite that evening:

We went back to the cabin and started in on our case of 8 Ball Stout. Sunday morning was COLD but the bite was decent. We missed a lot of bites but still came back with 3 fish. The water was still too flat and the sky too clear for a really hot bite. We could have had limits, though, it is just so hard to resist that reflex of setting the hook! We were primarily fishing close to the tules by the airport.

After quaffing numerous beers my buddy and I decided to throw some horseshoes before the Raider game. I started up a conversation with the fisherman in the adjacent cabin and to my surprise it turned out to be FishnDave! I convinced him to join us Monday morning. The rest of the day is a bit of blur due to excessive fermented beverage consumption...

Monday morning was bit warmer thanks to cloud cover and there was also a nice amount of chop to deflect the sun.

I had four bites and two fish landed before sunup. One of those fish was a personal best for me, a 4.6# ELT! It was quite the battle.

Soon enough, Dave and my friend started getting bit and it was non-stop action from there on out. There were a couple SDRs but it didn7t matter. Every fish was quality. Our stringer of 7 fish (could have had one more but we had had our fill) weighed over 20 lbs!!!

I can't wait to hit Eagle again next year. Tom is the man. Dave, it was great fishin' with you, thanks for coming along. Be sure to report how you guys did today, okay?

Dave with our 20+# stringer:

Oh, we had most of our hits on worms but also had a couple hits on black or brown flies and amber grubs. Worms were the way to go, though. The fish are feeding on big leeches.

Great job FC and nice pics, I only got 7 days the 1st of the month up there, but it seems that the fishing has picked up. we came home with limits but really had to work for them. Maybe can swing another day or two this year. I just love that place, even when it's slow.
