View Full Version : Oroville 5/20

My buddy Bill and I headed to Oroville this morning in hopes to get into the hot action I have been reading about and hearing about. It didn't take long we started at the dam and had good action from 7:00 til about 9:00 boating 10 fish and hooking another 15 or so. Lots of doubles and almost tripples. After about a half an hour of slow fishing we picked up and headed over to the bridge where we found some off the hook action for about an hour. It was non stop doubles and tripples, we probably put another 15 or so fish in the net and lost another 10 to 15. The hot set up for us was a pink uv hootchie tipped with sardine pieces, and any colored dodger. We caught fish from the surface down to 55' otw with 35' being the best. We kept our 10 fish limit and left around noon. The fish were all in the 14 to 18" range with the majority being 16 to 17" and fat.
* * Saw several sniffers on the water today and lots of fun listening to all of the radio chatter. It was nice meeting Capt. Morgan, Rodbender,MJK,Fishermunn, and Big D. I got a nice show from Big D's boat and Fishermunn's boat under the 162 bridge. :o *Come to think of it thats is when the fishing died.
* * We didn't have time to shoot any pics on the boat due to when the fish started hitting there wasn't much time to do much of anything except unhook fish and control the boat. Here is the Pile o Cohos when we got home.
Until next time,

Nice report. Looks like the hot action on Saturday continued on Sunday. What was the biggest? They look like the fish from Saturday, all 15-16 inches. See any 20 inchers caught?

Our biggest was 18", I heard some chatter on the radio of some bigger fish but didn't see them.

Had fun this morning fishing with the gang. Fun chit chat on the raido.I was on the water at 7:30 first fish about 7:45,limit by about 10:30. I had 2 ldr's,not bad for solo. Very nice morning. Never left the dam area. I talked to Kendra,Mike & Kids(fishintrips) at the ramp unloading as I was loading. They had just got back from Don Pedro & were tired of catching small fish & they had the looks on there faces that they were going to catch some much bigger fish. ;)
*I took some pictures on the water but I had the camera settings wrong.
No anchor nice to meet you. All fish were caught on turkey hots dogs. ;D My biggest were two 17"'s.

My limit for the morning

Had you used Nathans all beef dogs you would have had your limits in 1/2 hour ;D
Glad to hear everyone was out spanking the coho today!

No Anchor and Captain Morgan, It was nice seing you out there. We arrived later than planned at 7:30 am. We hooked up right away with then the first ten minutes. That followed up with a doulble then singles for a while. We ended up hooking 18 fish up 18 inches. We hooked most of the fish on Apexs and excells at 1.5 to 1.7 mph on the GPS. Not as fast action as yesterday but another nice day. Next weekend I pick up my new boat. [smiley=excited.gif] [smiley=excited.gif]

Kevin glad to see you got into some fish. I love that all the fish are nice & fat. Hard to believe we we're catching 12" fish a few months ago. I had one dancing on top of the water today. What a blast!

Can't wait to see the new ride. ;)

No Anchor,

Nice to see you on the water today! You probably saw more than you wanted to of us ::) *
On the water salutes to fellow team members is something I unfortunately learned from hanging around Kokaneemart and Dogapolluza too much! I'm keeping my fingers crossed I don't end up in a Mexican jail in a few weeks.

Had a great time with those little Silver Rocket's today. *Had pretty solid action early with a few doubles and had 10 fish to the boat by 8:30.

* * * * * * * * * * Big D with his hands and net full

Fished the dam area with the fleet for most of the morning. Lot's of sniffers enjoying the action. No Anchor, Captain Morgan, Fishermunn, Rod Bender, Fish Junky, The FishinTrippz. Even Bob Sparre enjoying some quality time with the family.

MJK, Fishermunn and Rod Bender were thinking of heading over to the 162 Bridge. When we heard No Anchor on the radio reporting good action we picked up and headed over. Picked up a few more fish and ended *with 20 fish in the net with the biggest at 17.5"

Ran a few different rigs with the best producer for us the Chartruse Apex.

Picked up our gear about 12:30 and met up with Fishermunn and Rod Bender at the Sparre camp for some great wilderness cusine. Thanks again Bob (probably should be thanking the better half)

* * * *Big D and MJK with some Silvers for the table

*Rod Bender attempting to convince MJK his Coho's were bigger!

Great time on the water with good fishing and good friends.
If you didn't have the opportunity to get in on the King's at Berryessa last month you should try to get to Oroville, the Coho's are Hot little Rockets and great fun!

Here I am posting at 4am, with back to back trips to Oroville and getting up at 3am both days, I hit the sack early last night.

Thanks for the ride FisherMunn, had a blast out there with you and all the others. Plenty of sideline comments on the radio. I used an Apex at 50' and had five fat cohos in the boat by 7:30am. FisherMunn had three LDRs and was still looking for his first boxed fish. It wasn't long and Ken was into them big time. He more than made up for the slow start.

Nice to see other Sniffers, Captain Morgan, Fish Junky, No Anchor, BigD and MJKielty. When the bite was on yesterday it was on, then they would just stop for an hour. We moved from the dam to the bridge at 11am and got right back into the. At noon we heard about a great breakfast bite at the Sparre camp, so we picked up and head over.
Thanks for the food, Mrs. Sparre. It was nice just to kick back for an hour and relax on shore.

Off the water at 1:30pm with limits. I used the nice cleaning station at the Spillway ramp to clean the fish while FisherMunn got the boat ready to head home. Will be back in mid June with Mom and Dad.

If you go on shore, watch your step. Found this little rattler in the Sparre camp

A nice day indeed. Always a fun day fishing with Rod Bender. Team Kokaneemart lived up to there reputation. Good fishing and a great show! Our team captain placed in the Don Pedro derby and didn't make it but we pulled up the slack. Way to go Ric, Bob and Patrick!

Nice to see all the fellow sniffers on the water. As Big D said in his report if you liked the hot bite of kings at Berryessa you will definetly like the action of these cohos. They will run on you. Fish were caught on Humdingers and Apexes - 30'-90'. Thanks to Bob Sparre and family for a great breakfast. Beautiful spot to camp. Time to start pursuing the kokanee at Berryessa as the derby is getting closer.
Fish Junky - can't wait to see your new boat. Now you can crank the stereo up and dance like Rod Bender.

Excellent reports and some fine fish! Team Kokaneemart represented pretty well! ;)

We took 2nd (Sportsman's Division) at the Don Pedro Kokanee Power Derby (I think 8th place was @ 1/2 oz. less so...they were the same fish!...we just got a fat one!) and the troops slayed them at Oroville!

I think the team name might have to change to Team Landlocked Salmon! ;D

I know I'm ready for another run up there for these beauties! They tast as great as they fight!

Congrats on your victory Ric. ;)

Big D-
* *Thanks for the ride yesterday buddy in your DC (Designated Coho Killer). *What great action! *Those little bullets can scoot like no other. *Coho on the grille is tuff to beat also.
* *Bob and Tomi, thanks again for the shore breakfast. *Man was that a treat!
* *Rod Bender and Fishermunn, after further review, is there any question which boat had the better brag stick? *Come on now. *Either way, another great day for Team Kokaneemart.com.
* * Can't wait to get back to that action. *Great action, great radio banter, super cleaning and launch facility. *Can it get better?

05-21-2007, 12:09 PM
It can only get better if you do the cleaning!!! ;D ;D

05-21-2007, 04:27 PM
I'd even be willing to pay him .50 a fish,to clean mine. ;)
