View Full Version : Camanche 4/30

I launched at the North ramp this AM and headed to Big Hat Island. I * started trolling with one top line with a fire tiger Rapala and as I was letting back my orange grub on my second line, a 15 inch trout took it just feet from the boat. *Hmmm! *This is a good sign. *I trollled around the island for about an hour then headed towards the dam. *I went back and forth across the front of the dam trying several setups and depths. *At 10:30 I got a good strike on a fire tiger Criplure at 20 feet. *I thought I was snagged but when I saw the depth at 115 feet I knew I was into a nice fish. *I fought it for about 20 minutes and finally got it to the net. *Wow was that exciting being solo in the boat. :) *6.8 pounds and 25 inches. *I continued trolling til about 1:30 for one more about 15 inches before calling it quits. *The fish were stacked up at the dam but not many takers. *Today was my 55th birthday and that fish was one welcome gift. ;). *A few boats were out today but I didn't see many fish *taken. *The water temp was 67-71 degrees and 15 feet visibility. *PS Fishermunn, I tried a blue Criplure but it didn't work. *;D *
Some pics........

Big Hat Island at 7:30 this morning.

The fish were everywhere.

Some of my weapons.

Jack was with me but won't help net the fish. *Something about only eating beef???

Sam, Happy Birday,
Thanks for the on the water call today when you got that pig in the boat. At the time it was 10lbs, or just seemed like it. Good thing it didn't get away or it could have been 15lbs. Nice job get that big trout in the net by yourself.

See you on the water soon

wow! what a birthday gift that fish was for you! was the meat white like a recent planter or orangish like a holdover?

04-30-2007, 06:30 PM
It was pink so it *was a hold-over. *I got a lesson on Camanche trout from the guy in the store. *I didn't know about the sterile fish or the meat color difference between fresh plant and hold-over. *This was my 3rd trip to Camanche. *My first 2 visits I didn't get anything. *I got my payback today!!

Awsome! Nice fish kokoloco. Suprising you didn't get more with the way they were stacked up by the dam. Usually when you find them like that and they are moving so much they will hit like mad. Keep working with your presentation, long light leaders, long set backs, no dodgers.
