Just got back over the hill, thru the snow and rain on 80.

I brought my son Matt and his two buddies Andy and John, who got nicknamed "The Three Hoods" for their hoodie sweatshirts ;D ;D.

We fished a short time Friday evening 'till dark for one 22" Cutt. *Saturday we trolled yellow and red, green, and firetiger Lymans and Watermellon Apexs on the West side from Pelican to the Needles for 5 between 18" and 23" *at about 8-20' deep in 20-40 feet of water.

The potluck was excellent last evening. *I brought home-made red enchaladas. *There was a killer potatoe salad, meatballs, Mr Eds shrimp slaw, fried chicken, and Mickey's white salmon. *I was so full I couldn't eat the birthday cake or cheezecake. *Beth's Tuaca was consumed as well as other adult beverages ;). *Met a new member "Heckle" ?? who tried to give everybody a bad time.

We woke up to fresh snow on the mountains ringing the lake and we had to head back early to get the boys to their jobs.

Overall slow fishin' but great company as always.

Just got in I need to clean up(boat and RV) I have pics and I will post tonight ;) Ok, I uploaded the pics to imageshack and dont know what to do next so I will figure it out later. We fished Friday at Pelican it was pretty rough so we followed Mickey and Hammer to the willows picked up 1 Fish there under 16 in on a frog lymans we stayed there for around 1 hr with no more action so we went to hells kitchen with Mickey and Hammer tried it there for a while with no luck :-/ so Mickey being the guide that he is ::) he asked us if we wanted to see the Pyramid so we took a ride since it was such a nice day. That pyramid is a site to see 8-) we trolled around for a while and we all decided to go back to camp it was around 3:30 we were on the lake since 8 am. Saturday my wife Sandy didn't want to fish so I hithced a ride with Mickey, Hammer, and GVF. We went to the hells kitchen area and were cathcing about 1 fish a hour, they all came on bright colors on a cloudy day :o . The potluck was awesome met alot of sniffers. Sundat we ate breakfast and hit the road at 9am drove to boomtown where we learned there were chain controls so we stayed there for a few hours took some money from the casino and my wife and I left an 1:15 pm and headed over the pass *leaving Mickey and Hammer at the casino. It was pretty snowy but the roads were clear. I t was a good time all in all My first trip to Pyramid. Had to listen to Mickey complain ;D ;D ;D but it was worth it ;) Hoping to have pics posted soon[http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/9374/dsc03648gg1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Thanks guys I really missed you all (and I know you all missed Kneedeep,Maggie,Hilda, and I.) But we did salvage a little of the weekend by going to the Strawberry Fest in Roseville. Oh yeah and drinking Strawberry Beer. A LOT.
Hope you all had a great time.

I had a good time cussing mother nature for screwing up the barometeric pressure >:(. Cuz Im more than sure, that was one of the leading reasons the bite was nearly non existant >:(. Or maybe it was just because the majority of the fish were in shallow trying to GET IT ON ;) and I was scared of banging my boat into something unseen, so I didnt go in very shallow.

Thanks guys I really missed you all (and I know you all missed Kneedeep,Maggie,Hilda, and I.)
You all were missed Ric .........I like beer ;D
PK today wasnt too bad a little rain but the lake laid down real nice for the morning
Ed and I trolled in 4' of water today and yesterday we even trolled in less Huh Mickey ;D ;D

04-22-2007, 06:13 PM
Well I wish that I could have come out. But I didnt have anybody to watch the kids for me while I while I go out and play. As trolling in 4 ft of water.......... I may own my boat out right but Eds aluminum boat will react a whole lot better to bouncing off a rock or what ever at 2.5 mph than my fiberglass boat. There for untill I get some ESP or an aluminum hulled fishing boat I will troll where I know I wont run aground. Side looking fwd looking sonar probably wouldnt help either. Just ask Doc ;)

HAY!

I read all the time about D/R balls kicking up sand and dirt to get the
fish in a feeding mood.

Just thought that prop wash in 4 feet would work just as good !!

I told you guys that you were fishing too deep. ;) ;D

Sorry for the delay in adding to this, but had a flat tire on the way back. Fortunately, was able to get a new tire in truckee. I hate having one of those 1 time use spares. Only good for 50miles, yuck.

When I came over the summit, it was snowing but the road was clear. Only thing being checked were the semis. And then only to see if they had chains with them. For everyone else, it was clear sailing. And what's funny, Reno radio was reporting chains were required while Caltrans had no problem with the conditions.

I agree, this was a strange fest. Bankies out fished the boaters. And as some of you know, I caught a seagull off the beach at Pelican Saturday. Stupid bird got himself tangled up in my line. Around his neck, one wing, and both feet. He took a belly flop into the lake from about 15', screamed like a wet hen all the way in and was released unharmed. He was a slot limit bird.

As to the fishing, worked both sides on the lake with Pyramid Kid Saturday and we threw everything but the kitchen sink at them. Result was PK with 2 to my 0. PK it was a good day on the water, and a pleasure to fish with you. Decided to try from shore Sunday, and that was were the action was. Tried a copper john under a bubble, and had 1LDR. Saw a number of fish caught in 15' or less. Some were over 24"
Finally switched to a 2 fly setup under the bubble and pay day. First cast and a 16"male, And about 20mimutes later, got a 20" male. That was was a ball on 6lb test and a eagle II rod.

Got to meet a bunch of folks-Mr Ed, BigB, fernley tim, Set the hook, And Pyramid Kid. Met anew Mickey, Hammer, Chick, GVF, and of course Doc. Doc, if I ever stop learning from you, I hope there's a 6' deep hole close by.

We just about didn't make it there... work stuff.. :(

But we did get there - around 5;30 - just in time for the potluck *;) ::) Oh, and in time to make (and drink) some Margaritas, too! They didn't last too long... ::)

The Sniffers who'd been out fishing found it slow, but the fish were there, and the weather wasn't too evil.

The pot-luck was great! All the various smoked fish appetizers, the enchiladas, the cabbage and shrimp salad..mmmm! The potato salads, chicken, sausages, oooohhhh... I did try everything... :-/ * Oh, yes, the cheesecakes for dessert too *- special from Dee.

All night, after we retired, we could hear the rain on the roof, but in the AM Sunday, the sun was shining, and the fish were biting right in the shallows off the beach. We watched many fish come in and get released.

About 10 or so Sun, waves of light rain were sweeping through, giving spectacular photo ops across the lake. The lake was smooth though. But the bite kind of quit after 9:00 or so. Only after we left, around noon, did we hit some wind along Pyramid Hwy, so I guess it got nasty shortly thereafter on the lake, too.

Happy to have gotten there and fested with old friends again * :)

YYEEEEEESSSSSS The more you get to know Frank the more you'll know that he lies ;) I think he caught 2 fish, I caught at least 5, not even close ;D He did use every lure in my box though ::) It was the first time I got to fish with all four downriggers, it went great :D GVF and I tangled one time and it was because of a darn fish ;D ;D ;D I think for a while we were all running Lymans, now that's a true test ;) I should have started drinking earlier, I was a "little" grumpy to start but was fine as soon as Spinfisher showed up and mixed a pitcher full ;) I wonder if VVBob will get out of Pelican cove this week? He was fishing for 3 days and never got more then 100 yards from the dock ::) I bet his tank of gas will last him all week ;D ;D ;D

From one Frank to another Frank I know what you're talking about, Martinez. Mickey hates to acknowledge defeat. Especially when you beat him on his own boat... and especially when he hogs one DR and lets you fish off the other with who ever else is on the boat. I love it, Martinez. Go ahead and rub it in. So did any sniffer git one over 26" ?

Top weight was 12lb 4oz that I heard someone say ay the bone fire......

So is that all the pictures................? :'(

Not to mess with you all, a great trip..........
Even though Mickey got out fished, however he did have the biggest !! ;D (in his boat ) ;)

I had one big fish hit my "bubba lure" (Doc knows) but it did not stick,Sunday. :'(

That makes two times !! Third time is the charm............ :D

One thing about it, no one was in any trouble with all the Coast Guard and Safty vessles on the water !!

That rubber with two 225hp props pushing it would get up and go.............

Too bad it took 20 min. to get it up out of the dock........... :'( :'(

( I was next in line ) :P

I would like to thank Harlan "KingMule" for allowing me and my friend to go out on his boat Saturday. *We only boated one fish for the day, but also had a couple of LDRs. *It was just too bad that we were not able to catch more fish, but I think no one did well for the weekend. *It turns out that Harlan lives here in Reno and we do not live that far from each other.

On Sunday, my friend and I went out and I caught the first and only fish right away. *It was on a Lyman and right after leaving the ramp. *I thought that we were in for a good day of catching fish, but that was not the case. *Between the hail storm, wind and rain we did not catch any more fish and ended up calling it a day early when the wind started blowing harder, which was the time everyone else had decided to get off the water.

It was great to see all of the Sniffes, both those that I have known for a while and those that I just met over the weekend. *Set_the_Hook, now that we have met, we will have to get together. *It was too bad that some of our friends were not able to come over for the gathering, but I can not blame them, as the weather was not the best.

Here is my friend Todd with the one fish from Saturday.
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/4645/imag0039fw7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

The winning fish for the Hook, Line & Sinker tournament was 12 lb 8 oz and was caught by a woman. *Second place was in the 11 lb range. *These were the only two fish over 10 lbs.

I talked to V V Bob yesterday and he said the fishing picked up yesterday and the weather was much nicer. *He did not get out on the water until around noon and ended up catching 8 fish for the day.
