A buddy is an die hard Kayak fisherman
and wants him and I to try our luck
at Berryessa. We were thinking of soaking
a live minnow down to the 70-80ft range.
Think any of those Kings would take the bait?
Also, is it legal to use those light sticks that
you break and they illuminate. Was thinking
of using a 6" light stick about 12-14" above
the live minnow.

I don't see why not. The fish eat minnows so if it moving, it's lunch! As for the lite stix, I don't know. You might inquire at the F&G website. Good luck.

How far of a paddle would it be from the nearest
public area where you could launch the kayak
to Skiers Cove. My buddy's kayak has a fish
finder and a spot for his portable GPS. He's
going to participate in a kayak fishing contest
in Elk, Ca. He loves the ocean in that thing.
Not me!!!! LOL

About 3 miles from Capelle Cove free launch ramp. Happy paddling. ;D

Ouch!! That is one long paddle. I have a pretty good
idea where SC is but am not absolutely sure.
If it is where I think it is then launching at Spanish
Flat and heading east might be a shorter trip.

It may make more sense for your kayak buddy to launch from Markley Cove and fish the baseball diamond. Fishing for kings has been pretty good in that area plus he will be better isolated from the wind and it will be a very short paddle.

Your buddie is a die hard!!! Pay the $15, launch at markley. I would suggest rolling shad though. That's my 2 cents. Good luck!
