View Full Version : Awesome day @ Berryessa 3/17

Started around the skiers cove area. Lots of Muck in the water!! Couldn't even get four poles in. Me and the Mrs. were busy trying to keep lines in the water. We brought the little one for her first trip of the year. We let her bring in almost all the fish. She was having a blast. We caught all the fish between 45' to the surface. The lures of the day were: Cop car Apex on the surface, which we couldn't keep the rainbows off. The middle lines had spinners tipped with corn (koke special and carp spit). *The bottom line a Cop Car dodger with a silver Apex. This one caught most of the kings. Speed around the 1.0 to 1.2 on the speed indicator. Must have caught 30 fish. Keeping three limits for us. Kings to 17" and some nice trout to 19". Non-stop action from 7:30 to 11:30. We picked up at 2pm. If anyone has pictures of some kokes caught *at Berryessa i would love to see them. Until next time. Good luck to all and to all tight lines. Robbie (Koke Machine)... Channel 69

Hey Robbie leave some for the rest of us. *No fishing this weekend, painting my deck so have to imagine I am out there. *Did you tip the apexes with 1/2 crawler? or did they bite them bare with mayb a bit of scent? *

Doubleheader, The Apex's I use are only smeared with Pro-cure Thread fin Shad Super Gel on the bottom side. I keep hearing people tell me i can't troll at 1.0 to 1.2 with them. But that's ok I keep catching fish at those speeds. I do change the leader to #8 Trilene in clear. 30" leader. Good Luck. Robbie (Koke Machine)...

I dont think people know the difference between the kings and the kokes. I havent seen one yet, but i have heard people saying the are catching them.

Snappy_McBite, I think your right!! I pulled koke lures all day Sat. and all i caught were kings and bows. Spinners w/corn at depths of 15 to 30' and no kokes. It will happen soon. Hope this weather keeps up!!

Way to go. I really missing with little guys and gals. I'm waiting on my first grandkid. I guess I'll have to draft a niece or nephew. And yeah my silver Apex did just fine at 1.2 last Koke season. Late in the fall it was my go to lure. Now I'm catching trout on it at 1.4-1.6 but it was fine at koke speeds. We tried some corn and spinners yesterday at Melones but nothing. Any time now.
Nice Report
