Dad and I headed to Comanche on Saturday 2/24 in our ever continuing quest for big trout. We put the boat in the water shortly after day light and headed toward the dam and Hat Island. I started off with a orange J-7 Rapala on a planer board and a white grub at 5 feet on the downrigger. Dad had two orange grubs at 15 feet and the surface. First pass and I hooked a 15 inch fish on the Rapala and a few minutes later got another about the same size on the white grub. Then dad started putting on a clinic. His first was a 4 lbr, then a 3 lbr then a 4 lb 10 oz (our biggest of the day).

The bite was pretty consistent, a bite or two every pass, until 9AM when it slowed down. We decided to go looking over toward little Hat Island and the dam. Out in open water I got a short strike on a spinner/grub combo at 15 feet and dad landed a 16 inch fish on the surface. We trolled the entire south side and the face of the dam without another bite so we headed back toward Hat Island. Dad hooks up another nice 4-plus fish but it comes off at the boat. We kept working that area and picked up a strike or two every pass. I was pulling Rapalas and dad was using grubs. Dad got more strikes than me and more of his fish stuck. I got some great strikes but the fish would not stick. We ended the day with 9 fish two the boat, lost 4 or 5 and had a half dozen short strikes. Here is a pic of the 5 we kept at the fish cleaning station.

The lake became so rough that I only got a few pics on the water. It was a good thing dad was catching most of the fish as any time I let go of the tiller the boat would slide sideways. I ran over my dadís topline twice with the motor, one I was able to untangle on the water, the other I had to put the boat up on shore and pull the prop. We called it a day about 3:30 when my dad started to turn a little green. My dog wasnít too thrilled with the rocking and rolling either. But the windy conditions are probably why we had a pretty good day. But nothing like what KokeMachine had!

Great report and Fish. I usually do the same thing when my dad starts out fishing me, run over his lines to slow him down.

Glad you got to spend the day with your dad.
