Well we made it to the lake today. *On the water at 7:30ish, first fish on at 7:50. *We landed 8 fish total, the biggest being 4lb9oz. *Cought 4 on pearl grubs and 2 on J5 and 2 on J7's. *We lost the bite at 11:00 and found it again at 1:00. It was a beautiful day on the water. *Good company and good fishing. Carson cove and the mouth of Cat cove were the ticket for us.

Hey folks
Had fun today, On the lake around 8:00. Had my first hit around 8:15 but lost it and nothing for the next 3 hours. * :P * *Ran into Camotracker and gave me some advice. *Within 2 hours, had 4 in the boat. *Thanks for the advice.

Not a lot of sniffers out today but all in all ended up with 7 and left at 3pm. *Hot bait today was pearl with orange power egg.

[smiley=fishing5.gif]Hello fellow sniffers, this is Budcraz1 finally getting the nerve to post a little ambarrassing news to fellow sniffers everywhere [smiley=embarassed.gif], I lost the one and only Redneck Fishin Pole Finder on my last outing in which I got humiliated by WCSLINGERS by getting skunked the second time around(HaHa). *On a more serious note though, *[smiley=wallbash.gif]I had attached an old 3 prong pier gaft to the fishin pole finder for weight and after dropping this down about a dozen times, the knot came undone. Please note , WCSLINGERS tied the knot for me. [smiley=help.gif] Anyway, if any of you happen to hook on to either item please keep the Redneck Fishin Pole Finder as a gift, but hold onto the gaft for me *[smiley=cry.gif].The gaft has alot of sentimental value to me as my dad that is no longer with us bought it about 40 years ago when the two of us would go to Berkeley Pier fishing for stripers [smiley=sad.gif]. So if the fishing gods are on my side come Monday morning, I will get my gaft back and catch some trout. So if any fellow sniffers see someone frantically dropping a marine retieval magnet using a deep sea pole [smiley=duh.gif], it's only Budcraz1 trying to get my gaft back. So if you're down by the docks early Monday morning, come by and say hello to Budcraz1, I would like to meet more sniffers out there. Well thats all for now so good fishing to you all *[smiley=fishing5.gif].

Sorry for the late report this was yesterday. *We got on the water at 6, caught 4 good ones right away. *By 8 it died down for 2 1/2 hours we threw every color between those couple of hours. *By 11 we were starting to catch our fish again. *All in all a good day, slow but good. *Off the water with our limit by 2:30.

Fished amador today by myself. It was pretty cold first thing. The eyelets on the rods were freezing up. Things started out slow for me, but it eventually picked up and I ended the day with a limit. Fished along side HH3,Dennis, and Ronm for a better part of the day. Had to work a little harder today for your fish than normal. started to get a little windy when I pulled out of the water at noon. Not many boats out there today which made it nice.

Troutman, Friday I saw some guys catching fish from the bank in the Carson leg using power bait, and casting Rapalas. The points seemed to be where we were hooking up the best. 20 feet off the bank. Good luck. Mr.D

Well I could not buy a bite today. *I brought the big cooler - wishful thinking. *Threw everything I had out there but maybe they wanted a real slow troll or it was that I ran out of my favorite scent. *Or the fish were watching the game or Ron M's picture taking upped the ante. *And dont tell me that the bite turned on after 1pm! *Not very many boats and I did not see any nets go up.

I launched just after 0700, Trackertundra, Hoghunter3 and Dennis were already on the water. HH3 and Dennis already had four or five in the boat by the time I got to the back of the lake. Tracker picked up his limit early and was outta there. HH3 and Dennis picked up 12 and kept 9, I picked up 5 and kept 4 with the larges at 5lb 3oz. Only kept 4 because the last one was a 4 1/2 lb'r, pulled it in the boat, weighed it and put it on the stringer and back in the water with the stringer. The fish was thrashing around on the stringer, the clip came undone and off it went.

Pearl or white grubs for me today. I didn't need to watch my pole, almost everytime I got a hit HH3 was my fish alarm, even from across the lake. Also had 2 LDR's and one SDR right at the boat.

I saw a Tracker across the other end of the lake with a BBQ going in the front of the boat, must have been Troutboy :).

HH3 and Dennis with one just after I met them in the back.

Bite was pretty hit and miss all day. On for an hour off for a couple. We fished until about 2 PM and by then we were sick of fighting the wind.
Ended up with catching 12, losing a few others and keeping 9. Never changed from the normal Grub / Power Egg set-ups.

Great time catching up with Dennis. Had a lot of laughs.

DH, Sorry to hear you didn't get into any action. It did look like you were going fast, I thought you might be trolling Rapala's. I noticed you were using downriggers, how deep were you going, everything we picked up was right on top with no weight. Trolling speed was .6 to .9.

Ron M: I usually run the downriggers at 3 or 4 feet, back 50-60 and which allows me to run 1 or 2 on the surface out the back at 60-75. I have caught fish before at the same speed (including a good limit a few weeks ago) so I think they really wanted a slower speed today. I di run a rapala on one pole most of the day. Everyone was going real slow way back in that cove.

I started around lunchtime yesterday (in my float tube) trolling 2 flies in tandem (these look a lot like grubs). Tried around many of my usual surefire "hook up" spots - nada. The main lake seemed to be empty of fish. It was windy and pretty chilly and the lake level is low at the moment so there is lots of steep muddy bank showing.

Finally I made it up into the Carson area - it takes a while to paddle there in a tube :) but I usually at least get some takes on the way there.

In the shallow water there in one small bay I got my first real grab of the day. I started to concentrate in and around that area and I soon had 5 nice fish on my stringer - all of them from within a couple of feet from the bank and all of them hooked very close to the surface. Water was a chilly (48-49) and the fish all fought sluggish for their size (3 of them were around 5lbs and two were slightly smaller). Boats were coming in and out but they were trolling the deeper water and seeing little or no action (but I guess you can cover more of the lake that way).

Seemed to me that I could have hung out there catching fish for as long as I wanted to but I already had my limit and it was a long kick back to the dock. Instead I started back to the dock still trolling my flies and I never felt another fish all day until I was right close to the dock (one final grab there but no hookup).

If you are heading there the fish seem to me to be concentrated into small corners and in the shallow water at the moment. Most of the main lake seems to be quite dead. I saw several bait fishers at various points on my trip - most of them were fishing deep with Powerbait and drawing a blank. When I did find fish I found that I had to slow down my troll speed even in my float tube (so IMHO most of the boats are probably going waaaay too fast for some of those January fish).

It was nice on Sunday to get back on water after a month of not fishing. *i had my friend Ray with me and he has never caught a big trout. * Well we had several hits but only came away with 4. *Ray had a blast landing his first trout and declared it was the biggest trout he ever seen. *It was a nice fish somewhere around 4 lbs. *All 4 fish were over 20" long. *

Saw a few sniffers out there HH3 and Dennis were catching fish left and right. *Ron did okay. *Doubbleheader had not caught anything when i talked to him. *

great weather and great fun priceless.

I went out in the boat today (Monday) trolling with orange and white grubs with and w/o eggs, and several colors of the J7 Rapala's. Used 2 rods. Started at around 7am and quit around 1100 with not even a bite. Went into a cove for another 1 1/2 hours, anchored close to shore, floated and soaked Power Bait, and again...no bites at all. I did however see some real monsters jumping out of the water.

I was out on Friday with the same results as Flytier...paddled in my float tube all the way out into the Jackson Creek arm, sticking closer to the bank. Once I got past Donney Bay, that's when the action started. Caught the first on a pearl grub (3#), then hit a 3.5# and 4# at the entrance to Jackson Creek on good ol' fashion half-crawlers and powerbait. Slow paddled all the way back to the dock (with one LDR in the process), and then hit NOTHING around the dock and dam.

Everyone who's been saying that the fish are sticking close to the shore and scattering away from the dam are right on. Worked for me... :)

[smiley=fishing1.gif]I got onto the docks about 7:05 this morning thinking I was going to have a good day. Got to my spot where I lost the Redneck Fishin Pole Finder, nobody else on the docks. Toss my retrieval magnet in using my deep sea pole for rockcod, nada [smiley=sad.gif]. I talked to one the guys that worked there and he asked me what *I was going for with such a big setup, so I told him my story and he told me that depending on the wind any day the dock will move 4 to 5 feet either way from where I was fishing the previous times [smiley=rotfl2.gif]. I found this news a little discouraging, so I started putting more attention to catching some fish, with no results. I only got three bites, only one hookup but lost it. I did not get my gaft or the fish finder, just bottle caps , hooks and a swiss army knife [smiley=yahoo.gif]. I Seen a few boats going out, it must have been slow out on the water too as around 10:15, one boat tied up to the docks and the three guys started fishing off the dock. I don't know if they were fellow sniffers as nobody came over to say howdy. This is getting discouraging, three times out in the last three weeks and all that i've managed to catch after spending my $8.00 to fish each time after my $9.00 to get in is a 6' 6" pole and a swiss army knife [smiley=yahoo.gif] oboy. *FYI, the quadruple MOJO [smiley=stirthepot.gif] is still in effect for WCSLINGERS until I catch some fish (HaHa). Thats all for now so good fishing to all fellow sniffers.

Fished the lake yesterday.. Got on the lake at about 10 45.. Fished till dark... We put 8 in the boat all on grubs.. First time using grubs at amador. I have to say it worked well for us. Saw the Game Warden just as we were launching.. We werent even fishing and they check our license. Oh well, Im glad they are out there doing there job. All fish were in the 3 to 5 lb range, except the last one. Never seen one that small before. Probably 14 to 15 inches. Didnt look real healthy either. But I guess it would have been a decent trout at most other lakes. Saw Hoghunter just as we started. Seemed like he was having a decent day. Good to see lots of Sniffers.

Good luck

Hey Freon I'd like to thank you for trying to help me teach this old dog some new tricks, but he's a stubborn old mut. Im just glad he has started to upgrade his fishing equiptment [smiley=grin.gif]. That 50 dollar Cabelas setup that he pulled from the drink last week was a major improvement to his gear. Well the improvement to his gear sure didnt help him catch any fish, so I guess were going to work on his technique next. Maybe if i roll up a newspaper and smack him with it a few times he'll start listening.

REPORT for Monday - 01-22-07

Caffine hadn't quite cleared my eyeballs, but as I helped Ace load the boat pre-launch I glanced down the dock to see a couple guys getting ready to head out in a VERY SPIFFY new looking aluminum boat. *Looked at the logo, hummm ... Duckworth ... Was that you Dennis?

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/7028/Ama-Ace475w.jpg
In the water a bit after 9am and first fish-on at 9:30. *STRANGE looking critter. *Small, maybe 2lb. *I quickly released it before it went off!
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/813/OddAma-bow250w.jpg

Cat Cove was as far as we had to go to give them the Power grubs they craved. *The color was Pearl and a dunk in the container of roe flavored scent was all I needed to boat 7. *ZERO LDR's. *
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/4620/AmadorGE01-22-07w475.jpg

Whooly buggers just weren't working their magic today. *The cruise across the lake got us one more on a grub. *You can see the "glitch" in our path as we paused to land it. *

Highlight of my day was the biggest Ama-bow I've ever caught. *It felt the hook and instantly jumped 3ft out of the water. *With bulging eyes I cried, "Hooly Moley!" *A long hard fight ensued and after numerous, "I want this one ... I want THIS ONEs!" I eased him into the net. *He scaled out exactly 5lbs. *Sure seemed BIGGER! *After a battle like that I believe in giving regal recognition thus he was dubbed Sir Glad-I-Have. *Sir Lance-Ah-Lot had come before Glad-I-Have and had lived up to his title with multiple aerials, but was no match for my new biggie.

Speaking of BIG ones a boater we passed mid lake said he'd got one over 8lbs ... Hope he's a sniffer and makes a posts cause *I gotta SEE that one! *Only a couple other boats were working the cove. *Two guys were casting to a school and stayed in one spot. *We watched two others trolling and landing a few. *There were a few bankers and dock fishers, but no action as we passed. *We pulled out about 2:30 and it looked like we were first at a neat & tidy cleaning station. *Here's our take homes.
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/2958/Ama-bowlimit475w.jpg
First time on the lake with my new camera. *I looked for the eagle but only exercised the shutter on some donut begging ducks.

Nope not yet. Might have been someone taking a 'test ride' after the boat show. Might have to special order mine as I want paint down to the bottom edge. No more cleaning - polishing - protecting the bare aluminum for me.

What you spend on one setup, I could buy two setups, line and fill my tackle box and probably have $20 left over for gas. Sounds to me like some people have more money than brains. Oh I forgot who i'm talking about, did I say you had brains (HaHa)? Whoops, my bad. Thanks Freon for the advice, I'll use it the next time I go out. I'll have to dig up some worms out of my yard, i've seen some pretty decent sized ones out there. Well, thats all for now so take care and good fishing to all my fellow sniffers. I was thinking of taking the moterhome and boat to the lake this weekend . I have not been since summer. With the water low is the bank to muddy to get in and out of the boat on shore? We usally camp in the cove.

Hey Yak good fishing there. Looks like you were way back there in Cat Cove and I presume trolling real slow. Separately, were you using one of those smaller Boca scales in the picture? Need to pick up a new scale on day.

From shore (I'm limited to that) it seemed like most people were catching fish. At least more than yesterday and last Monday.

I actually got there really late today (1130 am) and first thing I saw coming down the hill was the planting truck. First tried the dam for one missed fish. The trout took the hook right off from my panther martin. After that I hit the docks and that is where I found all my fish. I fished bottom for three fish and slowly draged power eggs under a bobber for my other two.

It seems like the warmer water is making a better fish bite.

Yes Doubleheader, we went back in the cove as far as we could then hauled the lines in and turned around. *Ace's motor, set at speed 1, with a fresh battery, does between .9 and 1.1 mph on the GPS.

By "Boca scale" do you mean the lip gripper? *I looked online at a expensive gripper with a built-in scale, but don't remember the name of it. *I went instead for a Berkeley at Walmart for about $26. *I'm pleased with the heavy duty quality of it. *Sure helps getting a slimy struggling fish out of the net and in a position to remove the hook without having a greased hog contest with it. *Low in the water, in the kayak, I hope it will replace my net. *In a small boat though I found leaning over to water level to try to use it alone is awkward and unsafe.

Ace called this evening *... seems he's shelved his wooly buggers and has his rods strung with sparkling new Pearl grubs he's dying to try out. *We're going again tomorrow *(Wednesday.) *Stay tuned for more photos & report.

It was great to get out today and meet a few sniffers on the water, Lunkers and his crew and Yak Motor with Ace. :)

Most boaters started out slow until about 11:am when the action started. I had lots of take downs and misses. Lost 3 at the boat after playing them for some time thinking they were tired out. These guys fought great. Had fun anyway. 8-) Only boated 2 nice ones. :-/ Can't blame the fish today. :-X

Had most action in Doney Bay with pearl grubs and egg.

All in all it was a good day except for the fatality accident I assisted in helping with on Hwy 88 just after getting off 99 at 5:30 am. Woman was killed trying to cross the 5 or 6 lanes in front of McDonalds with a cup of coffee. :-[

Yak Motor will post his results soon, he was enjoying his new camera. 8-)

Well better later than never for a report on Monday's trip to Amador.
Got to the lake about 10:15 set up and on the water by 10:30.
Dragging grubs and J7's all over the lake finally got nice 4 lb. fish around 2:00 on the J7 firetiger.

Took care of the fish and back to dragging the grubs and J7. Got one more nice 3.5 lb. fish about 3:45. Not the kind of Slamador day like have read about.

RR275 - out!

Monday with RR275. *Better logistics in the boat: less clutter, more lure time in the water, etc. *Lures with scent 0; lures without scent 2. *Not enough success to draw *any conclusions, except that we don't know what we are doing - yet. *Parking lot talk was casting to fish that were jumping or swirling on the surface in the coves did better than trolling or main lake. *

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/5817/fishdockoverview475w.jpg
There were a couple guys on the fishing dock and 25 trailers in the parking area when we arrived at 9am. *ARGH! *We had to launch through a dense cloud of two stroke smoke generated by a huge outboard on a pro quality bass boat that had just fired up. *DANG! *Do they all pollute like that? *When we could breathe again and see our pole tips we fed out our grubs. *Yes I said, "OUR!" *Ace's fresh as you could get spankin new 3" pearl grubs began twirling 60 to 70' behind the boat. *A lone 3" yellow donated by a helpful sniffer last season was in my packet then on my single line. *Variety is the spice!

As morning chill broke I traded my knit skull cap for visor cap and found my VHF hand held in the process. *Firetrout came back on my first channel 69 call. *He was a couple coves over and had difficulty hearing me with my "talkie" set on low power. *Once I kicked it up to 5 watts he said I sounded fine. *Then I had to tell him I was hearing an odd background sound on his signal. He said his fixed mount was on high power (25 watts) and when he switched to low and it cleared and his audio was perfect. *The strange putt putting sound had *disappeared. *Firetrout, I forgot to ask if you had the SWR checked out after installation of the new antenna ... and HEY! nice to meet you today and that sure is a good lookin crew & boat!
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1037/FireTrout475w.jpg
Hal-UH-Lou-YUH! *Ace hoists his rod to heaven as his first Ama-bow comes in on a Power grub.
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/6885/Acehoiststrout475w.jpg
It didn't come easy though. *THEY didn't come easy. *While Monday provided me with a fairly well spaced series of bites we got nadda until 11am. *Cat Cove then gave up a few. *Near two hours of boredom took it's toll so we became analytical. *What worked on Monday? *Ah ha! *I remembered I was eating lunch and got hits. *So, out came the tub of Monday's leftover potato salad. *As I munched I focused on my rod tip. *Sides of the tub got scraped clean, but still NOTHING! *Next I remembered on Monday I wasn't seeing any of my take downs. *It took Ace or a half bent rod to get my attention. *Next came my new tactic of focused UN-attention. *I starred at the rocky shoreline. *Looked at the ducks and other boaters. *I searched the bank for deer. *I contimplated the plaid of Ace's shirt. *Wasn't long before my new strategy paid off. *A fish out of the water and a splash far behind the boat made me realize I HAD ONE ON!

Ace as a first time "grubber" had a different difficulty. *Being a long time wooly bugger fisher he could not break his habit of rod tip fixation. *Lack of confidence in his new bait was his problem. *He noticed a couple light bites I never would have seen. *His focus became a mental exercise. *I think his idea came from a movie or TV show, maybe Dr. Phil. *Instead of just fishing a grub ... he decided he needed to, "Be the grub." *And "Be the grub" became his mantra chant of the day.
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/4821/AmadorGE01-24-07wtrackoblique.jpg
Seemed quite boat crowded as we came out of the Carson Arm and met Firetrout on the way back to the ramp. *He said he'd had better days too. *The good weather brought out a bunch of shore anglers spaced between the spillway and dam. *I didn't notice any battles going as we passed them or the boathouse and fishing dock.
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/5989/boathousefishdock475w.jpg
A stop in Plymouth at a friend's small holistic gathering I'd been invited to got us some tasty snacks and four appreciative trout cooks relieved me of my catch. *One more short stop and Ace pleased a two more smiling Ama-Bow eaters. * As Ace dropped me off at home it wasn't "Goodbye" he said ... but "Be the grub." *I'm sure he'll do better next time!

Hi everyone, I've been reading the posts here for a couple of months but never posted until now. I fished today in my green inflatable sevlor fishhawk and met fishnfool on the water. Was on the water by 8:30, as I was setting up the inflatable two guys were catching fish with rapalas by the boat dock. I thought it was a sign that it was going to be a good day. I trolled a pearl white grub with a chartuese power egg, and a fire tiger grub with an orange power egg. For 4 and 1/2 hours I trolled. Trolled in to cat cove, doney bay, and up to and into Jackson Creek and not a single hit. My electric Endura trolling motor was on it's lowest setting and I couldn't troll any slower. By the time I reached mtn springs cove a slight breeze started and I was having difficult keeping a straight line going into the wind so I cut across the lake to the entrance of cat cove. I knew trolling slow was key, so when I came close to the bank, I cut power and let the wind take me in a slow drift. Finally I got a hit on the pearl white grub. I'm guessing it was a 4 pounder. I was happy to get one in the boat, but I was itching to try something new so I tried dropshotting a pearl grub like I was bass fishing. I cast the grub just a couple of feet from the bank and start twitching the bait. A couple of seconds later, I felt a small tap-tap, set the hook, and then Bam! A nice size trout rockets straight out the water and promptly snaps my line in the air. While I'm retying another dropshot rig, I get a hook up with the pearl grub that I was drifting. I landed 3 fish slow drifting in the mouth of doney bay with two SDR's. I was starting to lose a lot of dropshotting rigs by snagging the bottom, so I stopped after a little while with no more bites on the dropshot. Before calling it a day I tried trolling by the boat house and the dam with no luck, but on the way in to the boat dock I caught the last one for a total of four fish. Since the wind was of no help by the boat dock, I used short bursts of my trolling motor to give me that slow crawl. From what everyone was saying today, it seemed to be slower than usual.

Hello all went to the lake yesterday (Thursday) with my dad. For those of you that were there, we were the guys in the yellow and red kayaks *;D, I was the one in the red, my dad was in the yellow. *We launched at about 730, and fished till about 330 or so. *By the amount of boats on the lake you would thing that the lake was RED HOT *:D. Yet, as we began fishing we found that it was a terribly slow day. *I ended up with one good fish about 2-3 lbs, which was caught on a J-5 blue broken back rapala. Also had one LDR that felt like a decent fish on an orange rooster tale on the rigger at 12 feet. *Both fish hooked in the cat cove I think or might have been the Carson arm, but in that general area. *My dad on other hand came out with the big skunky, he did have two good ones on but both decided to be LDRs. *Both hooked on a clown broken back rapala, one in cat or Carson arm and one in the main channel by the launch ramp. *All and all a beautiful day and had fun with my dad so that is all that counts. *As a side note did over hear some guy doing well on a rainbow runner what ever that is. :-?
PS nice talking to Yonnr200 way to go on rigging you boat that thing was awesome defiantly a new level to inflatable

My fish finder isn't too accurate. I use it mostly for temp and depth. Does anyone out there know (by their fish finder) what depth the trout are actually out. I am wonerding if it is worth hooking up the downriggers and going down 20' or so? From what I have experienced and read lately, the top water fishing does not seem to great. Anyone out there using d.r.'rs?

The Bro-in-law & I where out yesterday. SLOWWWWW day for us. Put in @ 6:45. We only ended up with 3. 2 for me 1 for him. The largest was 4 lbs. All caught on white seps # 2 with pink power eggs. We did miss about three more hits & I had 1 LDR. Tried all over the lake.

Started trolling grubs at about 6:20. *As the sun started to break over the mountains we had three almost simultaneous takedowns near the mouth of Doney Bay, but only one stuck and was boated. *It looked like it was going to be one of those days. *Boy were we wrong. *The next three hours went by with only a few light taps and not much surface activity. *Most activity we saw was in Cat Cove. *It was slow for everyone else we talked to also. *Decided to change it up a little and tried a few other lures in our spread beside grubs. *Nada. *A couple more hours and we caught two more on grubs ( Firetiger and *orange body/white tail)
It was bottom of the ninth and we were getting desperate. *We knew these fish are in a spawning mode, so we stopped near the back of a cove where we saw a couple fish surface and beached the boat. *Threaded jumbo red worm three feet under bobbers and within a *minute we both had our first takedowns, which we both missed. *Not to worry. In the next two hours we boated six real nice fish, four on worms and two on a single white power egg with a real small spitshot 4 ft. up the line, and missed numerous takedowns. *We left them biting as we left (dinner plans) with nine for the two of us. *As were were leaving it looked like the trolling bite was starting to pickup.
