This site is great and the FAQ is outstanding. *But I wonder, is there a pre-eminent wriiten authority about trolling for trout throughout the year?

Thanks!

Best thing I have found is Sep's Tolling handbook. Basic, but every once in a while it is very good to go back to the basics. I get it out and re-read it every once in a while. Always pick up something new to try.

In my readings, there isint an almighty bible of trolling books, but seps is a good place to start. Also, the more you read the more you will pick up.

I got it about 40 years ago, it was rewritten in 1964 and it's still a good read, a lot of what you read on the boards (or don't read) is in that book.....somethings never change. ;) 8-) What folks think of as secrets has probably been written about. ::)

Here’s one of the first fishing bibles.
The Complete Angler
Walton Izaak 1653
“The jealous trout, that low did lie
Rose at a well-dissembled fly
There stood my Friend, with patient skill,
Attending of his trembling quill.”

"Trout Fishing in California" is a great book with some brief overviews on many different bodies of water.

If you like to troll crankbaits, "Precision Trolling" is a must have so that you know exactly how deep your lures are running.

For trolling check out Mark Wiza's back articles on the Sniffer! "The Curtis Creek Manifesto" by Sheridan Anderson will help you catch fish and apreciate the art of flyfishing. "The Sierra Trout Guide" by Ralph Cutter is another good volume of knowledge. Take care and good luck, Eric :)

Write you own!

Keep a log of your trips and what you read on this board when someone does well.

I have been doing so for 4 years now and it is a great reference guide.

For flyfishing I also like Ralph Cutter's "The Sierra Trout Guide" and to get tips and directions on lakes and streams in my area I like "The definative guide to fishing Central California." I think the guys first name is Chris who wrote the book, I saw his both at ISE Sac last week.

Boy would my Pastor be concerned if I recovered my bible with "Fishing Bible"
I can see it now, quoting from Kokanee Chapter 5 verse 5-11.

"The fisherman weren't able to catch any fish for their families so they all knelt down and prayed. Then the voice of the lord spoke from the clouds above..... put shoepeg corn on the hook and it should be colored red like the blood of the lamb....." The fisherman did this and caught fish to bring home. Their faimilies never went hungry again.

OK I couldn't resist. Those are all great books you are mentioning.
