If you wait a few weeks, the place to go will be Amador. Only about an hour from Sac. The fish there will average around two lbs or better. It will cost to fish there, but it's worth it. And no special tackle is needed.

we havent trout fished at folsom for a while now. trips to lake amador for you and your son on a boat last year would cost 32 bucks total, so this year is most likely the same. more times than not, it is worth the money you pay. just a heads up. if you do back searches for lake amador, (oct 2005-may 2006) you will get all the info you need before proceeding on your outting. from sac, its not a bad drive at all. also, keep you eyes open for rancho seco park, which will also start planting DFG trout as well as some cutbows from amador in the near future. they also have trout derbys too at seco. I dont trout fish at rancho seco, only go up in the spring when seeking out double digit bass. good luck to you and your son fishing.

just stay away from "pastie" cove if your son is young. If not, bring binoculars ;D
