I thought I'd start and maintain this tread as this time of year I'm always interested in when lakes thaw, and judging by posts last spring a lot of other fish sniffers are too. *So post the lake you want to know about and I'll add it to the list. *Of course if you know the status of any, post up. *I'll start the list with:

Hwy 108
Pinecrest - ice free, lake is high
Beardsley - road is open

Hwy 88
Caples - frozen, Ice dangerous
Silver - some open water by the dam
Red - frozen but don't venture out ice is rotten
Blue - frozen, road closed except for snowmobilers.
Bear River - some open water
Hwy 4
Alpine - frozen, road closed
Eastern Sierra
Kirman Lake-open
Virginia Lakes-40" of ice and great fishing!
South Lake, Bishop-Some open water at the inlet
Sabrina-50% frozen, some shore fishing available

Just checked out Hwy 4 today. They have started plowing past Alpine, but the road is still closed. We are a long ways from launching a boat there any time soon.

Good post; keep us posted you lake access researchers. I'm always researching Caples, Silver, Red and Blue lakes. I'll post a report as we get closer (should be a few weeks at least for these lakes)!

Huntington today@ 1:00pm,
A huge portion of the lake is clear. The boat launch is clear but there is a 100' stretch of snow about 2' deep between the launch and the parking lot. The concrete ends about 10 vertical feet and 150 surface feet from waters edge. 1 guy was out on a float tube, bows are being caught were Rancheria enters the lake on salmon eggs under bobbers.
