Nobody has mentioned using Mepps spinners. * *I thought they were a popular brand so I bought some to try this spring to add to my tackle box along with my usual panther martins and worden's roostertails. * Haven't tried them yet so can't comment on how they work, but they look very colorful. * * * *

Black and yellow panther martins with gold blades, and tiny rattle traps. *

So where do you get tiny rattle traps for panther martins? *I looked at panther martin web site and I don't see any with rattle traps. *Are they added on. *Thanks. *

I have always had great success for trout with a Brown Trout color Tasmanian Devil. They seem to work everywhere in the bay area... ;)

Firetiger Rapala has been my best lure. A #J5 or #J7

03-09-2006, 08:46 PM
super dupers and cast masters for the lakes 'cause you can really get distance with your cast.
panther martins for streams; they are easy to finesse in fast moving water. Although I still lose a bunch of them! :P

blue or green criplure tipped w/ NC and maybe live bait if you consider a night crawler threaded w/ 12 to14" leader behind a dodger or sidekick also white grub w/power ball

"Other" ;)

Red & white Daredevel

Dodger and needlefish tipped with a nightcrawler.

Panther Martin Hologram pattern - while casting from the shore or a boat.

Rapala while trolling.

Of course it's not a "lure" but my all-time favorite trout killer is a Jay Fair's trolling fly in Tui-Chub pattern!!!

03-12-2006, 10:39 AM
I don't know.. I think a fly is a type of lure. To me lures are anything artificial.. ie.. anything except bait. Someone could even argue that anything, whether real or artificial, that "lures" a fish into biting your hook is a lure. ;).. Larry

One of the most effective lures for trout is the plastic grub. It works on a lot of different lakes even though it gets a lot of publicity up at Amador.. Larry

For streams, black and yellow panther martin with gold blade. For trolling in lakes, rainbow trout-colored broken-back Rapala.

03-12-2006, 10:58 AM
I caught my biggest fish, a 16lb brown on a rapala at Flaming Gorge, Wyoming. So obviously it is my favorite. Needlefish is second because them consistently work for me at Eagle Lake.

03-13-2006, 10:21 AM
might have to change mine to rapala, banged a 5 lber at shadow cliffs on one.(chartuse deep diver) ;D

03-13-2006, 08:30 PM
For Eagle Lake, I also like a gold needlefish the best, so it depends on the water as to what my favorite lure will be. For jigging, I like Kastmasters, so now I have four favorites!!

03-13-2006, 09:02 PM
Thanks for all the input guys. Just put the grubs under "other"

03-14-2006, 08:02 AM
For trolling: Rapalas and Crip Lures
For casting (streams and small lakes): Kastmasters, Panther Martins, Meps Black Furys and sometimes Rapalas.

03-14-2006, 09:07 AM
Two blade Dave Davis flashers with a frog pattern flat fish tipped with nightcrawler and a cold BUD on the side ! :)

03-14-2006, 04:46 PM
I forgot about the cold Bud, or Buds, on the side, to make the day complete and improve the lure action!

03-14-2006, 10:05 PM
Depends on the location.
Eastern Sierra: Hwy 395 S. of Sonora Pass to Bishop -
#1 by far - Thomas Buoyant gold and red!!
#2 - Panther Martin gold blade black body with yellow spots
Backpacking south of Yosemite: practically anything
Western Sierra: Silver Kastmaster (bright days), Gold Kastmaster (dim light/ overcast days)
Siskiyou Co.: Black or black/sparkle wooly buggers and Rapala original rainbow
Big Trout - troll Rapala Original rainbow or gold/black (both broken backs)
;) TL

Bob Sparr's Radical Glow spinner in red works great.

03-15-2006, 02:08 PM
I would have to say a rapala or excel

03-15-2006, 03:10 PM
Rapala and Kastmaster are all I use [smiley=bananachaga.gif]
