Plan to launch and have bait at 6 unless they are selling it earlier, does anyone know? Hopefully the lines won't be too long since it is opening day. Is anyone going fishing outside the gate for Rock Cod? I will be on 69, winds look a little crazy for the day so it would be nice to pair up.

Hey kicker, if you don't get anyone on 69, try 68. The guy at the marina says they open at 5 am, but we tried once at 5 and they were a little late! Good luck out there!

Looks like me and my buds are headed down tomorrow afternoon with the motorhome and try an evening bite and maybe hit Scomas for dinner. If anyone is around, come by for a drink.

Where can I get live bait? Is the bait right at the berkley launch?

The bait dock is in the marina. After you launch turn left into the marina instead of turning right into the bay... Or you can just follow the line of boats.

Thanks Tankgrunt. I have never lauched out of Berkley before. Where is that launch located and what is the lauch fee? We are going to hit Berkley Flats for halibut next week. One more thing is what is the best live bait for halibut in the bay? Any of your knowledge is appreciated. Thanks.

Get off of 80 at University Blvd and head west, you can't miss it. The live bait that is available at Berkeley is anchovies, I have also heard that shiner perch work well, and smelt works if you want to catch your own. Good luck-

One more question for you sniffers. Anyone know the launch fee at Berkeley and the price for live chovies?

The cost is 5 dollars and you have to use a machine. I have personally not had a problem with the machine, but I hear it doesn't like the new 5 dollar bills. I always bring a couple of 5's with me and I haven't had a problem.

The bait is $40 for a full scoop and $30 for a "short scoop". The short scoop has always been more than enough for me for a day. The guy at the bait dock is not shy about giving you your moneys worth.

Good luck!

We fished the flats all the way to Angel Island last night after 6:30 and we landed a keeper, shaker, and one keeper striper. Day 2 we got bait and headed outside the gate..................bad move, it was really lumpy. So, we headed back in and ended with one shaker and one keeper halibut to 28".

It is actually $30 for half, $50 for full. If you tip the guy $5-10 he throws in extra

The first mile and 1/2 is the worst, then it really gets better, unless you have a S/W swell.

The first 1/2 mile is Potatoe Patch, right? We made it to the Bolinas Reef, several miles up.
