Jetspray and I headed for the 89 bridge on the West Carson River expecting cold and combat fishing at it's finest. We were not to be disappointed. Arrived at 0450 with temps in the low 20s and the roadside lined with vehicles. There to meet us were Fatfish (Jeff) and his cousin Chris. First cast at 0510. Cgagex3 (Cory) arrived and later Wolfden. First fish honors went to Chris with a real beauty. Jeff got 2 and Dave picked up a nice one. I fished for a couple of hours with no luck. I grew tired of snagging another angler nearly every cast. Cory, Todd and I went to the top of the bridge to enjoy the show. Wish I could have taken a movie. Could have had a complete show of fishing bloopers. Jeff and his cousin left to return to the Valley and Cory set off to find a spot with fewer folks and more fish. Dave and I left a little after 1000 to give a spot at the bottom of the canyon a try. Todd followed. We stopped at Crystal Springs at the bottom of the canyon. We saw two gentlemen leaving with some nice fish and watched a young fellow get a nice fish with his dad and younger brother cheering him on. The river on the north shore below the bridge was free of anglers so I climbed down the rocks to try and salvage the day. On my third cast I thought I hooked the bottom then a very nice Bow with a red stripe that seemed a foot wide started heading down river toward the Nevada state line. After a 5 minute where I had to drag the brute upstream through the spring torrent The fish was brought to the shore. Todd, who is suffering with a bad finger, climbed down the rocks to net the fish and take a picture. The fish was returned to the river unharmed. Total for the day for us fisher folks was 5 fish between 3 and 6 pound. Thanks for the ride Dave and enduring the crowds I know you hate. Nice seeing you again Cory and Jeff. There will be better less crowded days. Thank you Todd for netting and photographing my best bow of the year so far. I appreciate your effort and can do handi-capable attitude. ::) A wonderful if crowded day.

Those are some nice fish. It look like its a 118 miles drive for me to fish there. Did you take your 4runner? 118 miles is about 100$ of gas to get me there and home... :1fish0023mn:

Wow Guys

Some nice fish, but man I could not imagine fishing with that many people. It looks like an ambush waiting to happen. If I see more than a few people I go somewhere else up here. Going to give Lake Siskiyou a try on Thursday afternoon for a bit.

Happy Fishing to Ya.

I am in the same boat, way too many cattle in a small pen. Glad ya'll had a good time but I want to concentrate on fishing and not the fishermen around me.

Every year for the last 50 years I tell myself never again. Guess what I can't wait until next year.

Nice to meet some old and new friends, as CC says I am one who does not like weekend fishing of any sort. I fished in close and did not use lures that kept snagups to a minimum. It was a good idea to move after all when CC's freinds left after all.......Jetspray

My wife and I showed up about 9:30 sat. We went to the bridge on 88 becouse the bridge on 89 was a zoo. When we got to the other bridge ther were cars and people everywhere. So we started to get ready for some combat fishing. Then a green truck pulled up "Mr. Game Warden". The first people he walked up too did'nt have fishing license's. When the other people seen what was going on the place became a ghost town. The only people left was my wife and I and 3 other people. Come on people it's $40.00 dollars for a licenes. Where else can you spend $40.00 dollars for a years worth of fun. By the way my wife hooked up on a nice bow about 18 inches.
After that we worked our way up river I pulled in 2 little ones. Then there were some bear tracks coming out of the water and go across the snow. So we worked our way back down river with no luck. All the way home all I heard from my wife was "I cought the first fish in 2010" So all in all it was a great day.

89 Bridge was a zoo. We had the Wardem come, the Sheriff and the Highway Patrol. Everyone was kosher. Congrats to your wife on her first fish of the year. An 18 incher is a good way to start.:clappingcheesehead:

As for the warden he walks many shores, saw him a week earlier at ICR. The cost of a lic for out of staters is around $110 without the stamps. Seems people think they have a right to drive without lic, so why not fish the same way. It is simply the cost of the game, if you don't think they will check on opening day you have lost your intelligence.......Jetspray

Its not as if fishing licenses are a new invention..........kinda like indoor plumbing! And, if one doesnt expect warden's on the opener, one is naive, at the least!

Great report and pics CC. That beaute makes for a good day of fishing. Did you get a new Dodger cap it looks terrible. The combat fishing reminds me of the first time I fished Pardee.
