I'm planning an ab diving trip to Van Damme Beach state park, taking some non-diver friends. Is there any shore fishing there for them to do?? Thanks.

Yep.......they cast just past the rocks and hook fish all day. They use little sand bags for weights.........2 ft leader with hook and some bait......big ass rods 10 ft plus.

do you know why they use sand bags for weights? what are the advantages and how do you tie them on?

i bought a few but I dont know if I'm using them correctly

Sand bags are cheap. When shorefishing you are going to loose lots of gear. A lead weight is 2-5 bucks, sand bags are usually 5 for a buck. Just tie them off and use them like lead.
