A few weeks ago got a PM from Mariahpup (Bill) saying that he felt he would like to give Pyramid a try. We tossed some dates about and came up with Feb 9 and 10 and planned on meeting at Crosby's around 0730. Jetspray and I arrived a little so we took a trip up to Pelican to take a look. There were a few guys on ladders but they weren't doing very well. We went to the ramp and talked to GVF, SalmoTrutta and BigB. getting ready to set out. Read your report. Glad you did well. Met up with Mariahpup and Paul his son fishing partner. Both Bill and Paul where Pyramid virgins. Our goal was to get them on some fish. We got some stuff and headed down to Block House. We arrived to find only one other fisherman there. It was Bigdewy who from a distance seemed to be kicking Cutthroat down the shore. By the time we got to the water he had got two more trout. We all got into trout immediately. Later on King Kong, who had never fished Pyramid Shore, arrived followed by Mongo. Now Mongo hadn't fished from the shore for some time so he put together a "new" outfit for the occasion. It was a "Mongoized" contraption with the reel attached to the rod with electrical tape. It seemed to work. Kong made some flies he called Black Widows while we watched. They also worked. The seven of us fished until around 1600 and had a total of 40 fish to the shore with at least that many lost. Some of us had bleeding fingers from removing barbless hooks from toothy mouths. Bill had the honors for the day with 2 24 inch fish. As for numbers Duane kicked all our butts. It was dinner at Crosby's and a comfortable night in #11.

Tuesday morning we arrived at Block House before sunup and were into fish early. The weather was cold with little wind. Only Dave, Bill, Paul and I were fishing today. It was a little slower but not much. We had 18 fish to the shore. The quality fish for the day and the trip went to Paul with a nice 25 inch buck. All in all it was one of the best days I've had on Pyramid shore. I was glad to see some folks get their first Pyramid fish. Kong and Mongo it was nice seeing you again and fishing with you for the first time. Bill I'm glad you got your shot at Pyramid and had success. Paul you done good. Duane it is always a pleasure. Thanks for the tips and the lure. Dave. It was wonderful. Thanks for the ride.

Great report. Thanks. I am planning to head out there this weekend. If you do not mind my asking, what were the hot lures.....

Spoons in white with red dots or frog pattern. Crawl woolley buggers along the bottom with a 1/2 oz weight. Check your PM.

Hey Capt, do you guys eat those fish or release them? Just wondering how do they taste?

I don't like the taste of Cuthroat and return them when ever I catch them. Those from Pyramid are somewhat muddy in taste. Many think they are good when smoked. I have too many good bow and brook fisheries close to where I live so I have lots of good tasty trout. Paul kept his 5# to try in his smoker.

I am thinking by the time Calif gets through changing out their stocks to Tripiloids every stream in Calif will be Cutthroats with little others left......just a thought.......Jetspray
