Heading down to Prunetucky this weekend to fish out of Moss and hopefully the state water's have been open by then. May be out on the opener with my buddy Tom or another friend. Definitely going on the 2nd day. Last year the fish were on the bottom and we had to use 3 pound balls with braid or steel just to get down to them. Got the coals ready just in case we get into them. To me nothing beats fresh salmon, it is one fish I will not buy in stores. Anyone else planning on heading out if it is open?

I have been checking on line about the salmon opener, still haven't seen it in DFG stating the opener is April 2. It states sometime in April. Does anyone have proof positive that the opener is this weekend????

The only hard date I see listed is May 1st but is says MAY open in April 2011

Recreational Ocean Salmon Regulations

The ocean waters between Horse Mountain and the U.S/Mexico Border may open in April 2011 under in-season/emergency action taken by the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) and the California Fish and Game Commission (CFGC) pending their review of information on 2010 spawning escapements, 2011 abundance forecasts, annual management objectives, or other relevant issues at their March 2011 meeting.
The final 2011 season (effective May 1, 2011) for the ocean waters between the Oregon Border and the U.S/Mexico Border, and in Humboldt Bay, will be decided by the PFMC and CFGC in April 2011.
The final 2011 ocean salmon regulations will be posted on this web page once final adoption takes place in mid-April 2011.

I agree news papers are one report. DFG is the law.

Sunday: NW wind 11 to 13 kt. Mostly sunny. Mixed swell...W 5 to 7 ft and S 1 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

that's the forecast for Moss. I think I'm gonna keep my boat on trailer this weekend. 13knots winds are no fun.

We will be trolling with 3-4 pound balls, 3 for the braid and 4 for the steel. It doesn't seem so snotty if you get into the fish.

I agree, much better to be safe than sorry.

A little snotty. Had a lot of bites, released a lot of undersized (24 inches is the minimum) fish, farmed a few, dropped a lot of balls and caught 3 keepers up to 14 pounds. Crippled chovies with dodgers, purple haze hoochies with green hot-spot were the best presentations. If you go get ready to release some small fish at the side of the boat, and to burn a lot of bait. Tomorrow we may just run junk. If it ley's down tomorrow we will be heading back out and hopefully we will bring out A game. Headed out of Moss to the yellow buoy.

Went out yesterday 4/4 out of Monterey and ended up with 4. Lost a few as well. All good sized fish, no shakers for the day.
