Well the Fish-4-Brains crew made A trip to the west bay for once and tried a few different places. Pier 14, Candlestick, China basin ect... We finally found a heaven hole for the all the shark and ray fans out there. Free parking ( unheard of in the city ) 60 - 100 ft. deep right off the pier...Its not really a pier but more of a parking lot. Anyway...

We got there at 10am. 80# ray by 10:30 :) The first one spooled me pretty bad and sent me back to school without my milkmoney!;D Squid and live chovies were on the menu for this onslaught! Live chovies can be caught right off the pier with a high low setup using grubs and just jig it up & down about 4 ft. under the surface!

Then we started in on the sharks. On the out going tide, The sharks seemed to be alittle small. 3ft was the biggest on the outgoing.

Then SinkerSlinger lands the craziest thing i,ve ever seen on a hook...

A STARFISH :-? ???

Then we got into some more rays over 100#'s each!!! :o

Then SinkerSlinger lands some sandsharks for the group of onlookers that were watching us ;D By this time the tide was coming back in and the bite was HOT!

After the incoming blood bath SS landed a big Skate. ;D Very cool to see. ::)

Biggest shark of the day 52" biggest ray 120# plus :)

By this time my arms were so tired we had to take a break for a sourdough double cheeseburger from the local watering hole! ;)

We ended the day around 7:00 with more rays and sharks than I can type about. My camera ran out of batteries so thats it for pics...But that was one of the funnest days I've had in awhile.

I tested my new tackle and my endurance yesterday ;D Giants Graveyard will be known to other sniffers as soon as we burn it out ;D ;D ;D

Nice fishin' fo sho!! Those sharays sure are a blast huh? I used to fish that corner alot back in the day. Might head out this weekend, not sure though. Two questions for you in case I do. What tide/time did they bite get hot? And did you have better luck casting to Oaktown, the BB, out deep, or in shallow(what was the best place to cast)? Also, how much weight did you need to hold bottom(The current out there can rip sometimes). Nice report n pics!

Are the rays and sharks good eating?

If not, I woulde wonder why they wouldn't be thrown back?

Oh yeah, not to be a buzz kill, but the rays pictured are 50-70lb class depending on thickness. That starfish is pretty cool though...I've never caught on of them in the Bay..was it attatched to the bait or the weight?

As far as eating rays and sharks...a good few eat sharks. And some folks even eat batrays...but usually both are released. (Nice job using the net to land your fish). From what I've heard, Skate is a delicasy to some, and very deliecious. THough many people also release these.

Plus, with the nearby watering hole, who wants shark/skate? That place has killer fries.

Everything was released except for one innocent leopard shark that taped out at 52"...He came home with me ;D

Good job bro. The only proble I have is where the spot is located. Since I hate the city I wouldn't go there to fish even if you could catch tuna off the bank. Great report and the pictures are awesome. Give me a call sometime bro.

Great report EBA. Guys like you that actually go out and hunt for the honey holes deserve to keep them as long as you can - you did all the work. Enjoy the ride before the crowd finds you!

It wont be long before everyone and there uncle will be there waiting for me...Usually I have no problem with sharing my spots but this one I would like to get some stripers next month before the crowds start taking over...If not...Screw it. I've got other spots. And the ones I really keep to my self are the ones I dont post about! ;D

I dont concider a public pier or parking lot a honey hole...But its nice to get a good parking spot to fish the corner ;D ;D ;D

If you found a tuna bank spot, I would move to the city and live in the streets!!!

Like everyone else... ;D

Like I said in another post new to the site think its great for all the info and seems to be cool folks here but have asked twice now about certain spots and you could PM me with it or email if u wish so as not to let everyone know about it . Just asked here due to the free parking and normally fish the east bay side was just looking to try a different spot. But understand with the honey hole comments and the like and the way folks like to crowd a good fishing spot, but I also enjoy a good spot for stingrays and shark just for the sport and rush of the fight those type of fish give you, I usually C&R with those type of fish, kept a 47 inch leopard last month first one I have kept in years due to the posts about good tasting. Thought I would try again but didn't care for the flavor so jerkeyed out the rest and that was O.K. , but will continue to C&R due to not really enjoying the meat and leave em for someone else to catch again. By the way I posted were I caught the leopard it was a great day out at Ballena Bay of the point, bites hits and catching rays and sharks all day went out to the same spot for the next couple of weeks and there still wasn't but 1 or 2 people out there all day, so so much for giving up a honey hole and folks taking advantage of the advice. But will continue to post were I fish what I catch and read these great forums just wont ask for the spots anymore, due to the negative results. Again great site thanks for any and all info to be learned here TBONZ! 8-)

OK so this is the second post about the rays not being 100#'s ;D The one that was wieghed was on a scale that maxed out at 120# we estimated the rest of those rays according to that big one! I've caught and weighed 50# rays that were much smaller than those. I quess you need a pic of the scale next time huh!::) Not a bad Idea!

I also said We got a 52" shark but im pretty sure that one pic is about 2 feet! Are you gonna call me on that one too? ;D JK...

I never intended this post to be misleading. Just good ol fun! mybad!!!
