I bought two used pro crab traps to throw out next time I go for Salmon but I realize their too big. Must be at least 60lbs if not more and I don't have a puller so I'm gonna sell them. Not to mention the space they take up on the boat. How much weight is necessary for putting around 100-150ft deep in the ocean? I want it to not "go" away obviously but still be able to pull up manually. I don't mind sweating a little bit but over 60 lbs is just ridiculous.

Anybody recommend a good Ocean crab pot for occasional use?

Thanks.

Buy the 20 dollar square danielson's,and put a 10 pound dumbell weight centered on the botttom.Set it at 80 feet of flat bottom ocean, and strong arm them back to the surface.Did this for quite a while before getting a puller and round sport pots.Good luck!

I heard you need a different license/tag if you drop a crab trap off a boat? does anyone know if this is true? i was thinking of doing the samething...drop a few crab traps off on my way out and pick them up on the way back in.

thanks!

All you need is a fishing license.
