Picked up Jetspray and headed up the hill. First stop ICR. We arrived there around 0600. Dave set up with bait and I started tossing a 1/4 oz gold Kastmaster. On my second cast I hooked and landed a 13 inch LCT. A pretty and scrappy little thing. Unfortunately this was to be our only fish at ICR. Fishing out from us was John from Carson City who hooked and landed a nice 8 pound bow from his Porta-Boat. Nice trout John. It was a pleasure to meet you. At 0800 we headed up 88 to look at the lakes. Our first stop was Caples at the dam. The lake is still locked in ice with slush on the dam. Down at the spillway there is a little open water that is fishable but the few people there were having no luck. Next stop was Silver. The entire cove in front of the launch at Kay's is open and the rest of the lake is melting fast. The launch ramp is still covered with ice. Both campgrounds are still closed but the one on the east side of the road has been plowed a little and there was a camp host there. Back on the east side of the pass Red Lake was 60% free of ice with dam and south shore ice bound. Still couldn't fish it but the Lake should be free of ice by this weekend if warm weather holds. Back down to the West Carson we detoured to take a look at the river across from the Hope Valley Campground. The river was as high as I've ever seen it. Off color and starting to invade the meadow. We braved the swarms of mosquitoes to look at for fish. Sure enough beneath the roots of some bushes in a quite there were a half dozen smaller trout with a big boy that looked like a Trident Submarine. Went back to the truck and got our gear but by the time we returned the big boy had headed off to parts unknown. We were able to catch two of the smaller fish which proved interesting logistics in the flood. They were both beautiful LCT in the 17 to 20 inch range. We left there before we were eaten alive. Both Caples and Red should be fishable soon. Red sooner than Caples. I suspect at least one more trip this week. Dave thanks for riding with me. Red should be open by the weekend. The snow is going fast.

You would have to do a lot of work. Perhaps if you had a pickup with a snow blade.

Here is what the Silver ramp looked like on Tuesday

Temps are gonna reach 90 + here by thrus of next week. The thaw is on and after a long winter with late storms abounding it is a welcome site to see the lakes and streams flowing so well. It will be a good summer of fishing.......Jetspray
