What a GORGEOUS day!! Brother in-law and I took a chance and headed for the high country - there's still patches of snow in the shadows and in higher elevation. All of the 'Dry' Washes - were gushing with water, the lake was the fullest I've ever seen it - just beautiful! Water surface temp was 57-58, fishing/trolling was slow but managed to land a feisty hold-over rainbow out from the boat ramp and a nice bruiser brown by the dam. Both hit a toplined crawler lead by a small set of colorado blades about 80' back. Outside temp was 57 at 9:00am and 72 about 3;00pm.

I was up at French Meadows this past week camping and bank fishing. I don't know how the boats were doing, but bank fisherman were limiting on 14" - 16" Rainbows where the m.f. of the American hits the lake. The hot action ocurred at dusk with most luck being had with salmon eggs. I used a #5 rainbow countdown rapala on my ultralight with great success, and white power bait on my other rod with success on smaller fish (I forgot to grab salmon eggs before the trip). The morining attempts only produced 1 or 2 keepers, where as the evenings provided limits. I talked to a woman bank fishing with worms from a bobber who stated she was landing browns (though I didn't see any). Camping was great with no bears this time. I love French Meadows!
