My friend Steve and I ventured to Salt Springs Reservoir yesterday for a lot of hiking and a little lure tossing. We expected the bite to be slow, and it was: three hits and one follow. Steve did catch a 4.5 lb. wild beauty. The bite seemed to die away with the stiff east breeze which quit about midday. The reservoir level is way down and dropping fast. The only "easy" way to put in a boat would be to lower it down the dam face. (PG&E would take a dim view of that, I am sure). We took the high elevation all paved route in (Ellis Road). The road is in good shape except for one washout which has been filled with football sized angular rock, which tend to roll and shift under your tires. I would not attempt it without high clearance 4WD.
