My dad, Mariahpu (MP), and myself decided to hit Melones this morning. We arrived at Glory Hole Point (hate that name :) ) at 6:30. I haven't really fished this area but kept hearing about good hold overs being caught here. We decided to give it a shot. All three of us headed down to the shoreline with headlamps on our foreheads. I thought it was pretty nerdy but I love those dang lights. We set up a bait rod each and started throwing lures and purple woolies. We got to see some gorgeous scenery as the sun came up.

Couldn't ask for much better scenery.

My dad was the first to hook up. He got a nice 18" trout that hit the wooly at 07:15. We thought that was a good sign of the day to come. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a pic of it at the time of landing then forgot later in the day. Sorry folks :(

The bite would prove to be very slow. We had a few different baits out between the three of us and just couldn't find a bite. We kept casting different things to see if we could stir something up. Here is Mariahpup in action. :)

Since nothing was happening on the point MP decided to move towards the boat ramp and set up shop. It wasn't to long and I get a text message as I was casting. I look down and it is from MP. It's a frick'n picture of his trout he just caught!!! I was maybe 50 yrd away but around a bend. He said that since he released the fish he thought he'd better prove that he had caught one or I wouldn't believe him. :rotfl2: Here is the pic from his phone. Cracked me up!!!

The fog kept coming and going with the light winds which made for nice scenery but also a coat on and a coat off scenario. Here is one of my "creative" photographs when the fog came back in. I thought this silhouette of Mariahpup fishing in his chair was eerie. It's like MP was lurking the shores ready to rip the lips of the slightest twitch of his pole.

Speaking of which, he lost a WCI (wine cork indicator) after a hook set. He told me about it so I walked up the hill behind him and found it. It was like 20' behind him up the hill. Of course my WCI is designed better. If I have to yank the rod and send it flying it releases a parachute and gently settles on the ground next to me. :liar7sc:

My dad gets a hit on his crawler/mallow combo and says he has a fish on. He lands the thing and I can't believe it. Is this big for a bluegill????

I or he have never even caught one. And couldn't do it on purpose if we tried.

I finally hook up with a crawler as well. It was on a very short cast that I tried since nothing of any distance was working. He was a nice 16".

That my friends would be it for the day! I barley stayed out of a skunk. This makes me 9-0 for the 2012 fishing season so far. It was too close for comfort. A friend of mine went out on a boat to areas I gave him maps of and landed ten or so. I should of made him take me in exchange for info.

Was a great day even with the low numbers of fish. MP's company and spending time fishing with dad are what it's really about. Fish just brighten things up a bit.

:cheers1:

I haven't been skunked yet this year either. Of course I haven't fished yet. Hope to make it to Melones or Amador next week. I noticed that though you did not take a picture of your dad's fish you made sure to get 1 of yours. Great report.

Hey now! :) I am the only one with the camera, my dad was on a point a long ways from where we were set up, I ran back to get a net and pliers, and yes forgot to take the pick in my 50 yard dash. A guy can't get a break.

That was a bad joke, since I always see pictures of your pops with fish. I'd like to go to Melones but never fished it before, probably Amador then with the derby still going on.

Melones sure does have some pretty trout! I've never been to Melones, guess I better make it soon. How long of a drive from Roseville?? Is it usually pretty good from the bank, or is it one of those gotta bring the boat places? Hah sounds like your dad is a teenager texting you that pic like that! That's pretty cool!!

Thanks,

Let me google that for you (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=roseville%2C+ca+to+new+melones+reservoir)

Until the last trip we were killing em from the bank. Actually better than by boat. I just think we hit an off day. If you go to my profile and click on "Latest started threads" you can see some of my other post from Melones and what was working.

Let us know if you go. Good or bad the reports are improtant.

Hey RideNfish how do you tie your wooly booger so it doesn't tangle? I have tried to use a clear bobber with a 3' leader then a wooly booger, but every time I cast, the leader wraps around itself and is only a foot long or so. I have only tried this about 3 times so needless to say I am a noob when it comes to this LOL!
