Never been up to either one of these reservoirs and always wanted to go. I have the rest of the week off and a buddy coming in to town and want to do some fishing from shore. First, I'm assuming I can get to these lakes in the winter? Second, which one should I try? Any help/tips are always appricated. Message me if you prefer.

For current snow conditions, I've found this NOAA snow depth map (http://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/interactive/html/map.html?mode=pan&extents=us&zoom=&loc=60.0+N%2C+68.3+W&ql=station&var=snow_depth_shallow&snap=1&o5=1&o6=1&o11=1&o9=1&o12=1&o13=1&lbl=m&o15=1&o7=1&min_x=-120.45833333333&min_y=38.691666666667&max_x=-120.10833333333&max_y=38.958333333334&coord_x=-120.28333333333&coord_y=38.8250000000005&zbox_n=&zbox_s=&zbox_e=&zbox_w=&metric=0&shdvar=shading&width=780&height=600&nw=780&nh=600&h_o=0&font=0&js=1&uc=0) to be extremely helpful.
(and if you have unlimited time, there's a lot you can do on that page)

Right now (early Wednesday 2/8) it looks like there's clear shoreline at both lakes; but you'll probably have to wade through a couple/few inches of snow to get to the shore. SMUD clears the main road after each storm, so getting close should not be a problem... cross-reference that snow map with the Google aerial view and/or a normal map, Google or otherwise, to find the easiest route from road to lake. Or maybe somebody will post a more specific place to go...

if you go to Ice House, be aware that the dirt road that goes along the north side beyond Strawberry Point is closed but not gated last I saw... a nice Forest Ranger told me that rather than give me a ticket... same applies to all dirt roads for the winter I believe. It may be worth walking that road to get back to the stream inlet back there though (;-)
good luck!

I fish Ice House a lot,I doubt you can get to Strawberry because of ice.You can probably get to the boat launch but again ice can be a big problem. With snow at the 5,000 ft level I fish the foothill lakes

So, if we go to ice house tomorrow is it worth our time to fish the launch area? Again, we are shore fishing.

I took my boat up about a month ago and found a slow bite. The water temp. was 38 degrees and we picked up 2 trout. If you go, watch for ice spots on the road.

Well, we are definitely going. I'll be careful of the ice on road. Gonna just roll with the usual PB's, Budwisiers, and some worms... off the bottom with a slider i guess. If anyone as any other tips that would be great. :readinghelp0wn:
