View Full Version : Pine Flat and Hensley Lake

hey everyone. Went to Pine Flat on Sat thinking the bite would be on with the cloudy sky and sprinkle. Result wasn't what we expected. Got to the lake and line in the water at 9 at Trimmer boat ramp. With action really slow...well none existence is more like it. We tried everything we had in our tackle with no luck at all. The boats that we saw come and go didn't do too well either from what we over heard. We stayed there until 3 toughing it out. We should have called it quits but our stubbornness got to us. So we headed down to Kings River to try the river. Near the bridge was packed, shoulder to shoulder so we went down the road and tried drifting and lures for 20 mins. GF was getting stuck and frustrated so we left. As I left, a guy came and ask any luck. I respond with a no. He say he got a 4 lb earlier at the same spot on green roostertail.

After leaving that spot we went to Island Park boat launch for the last 2 hours. I got some nice pictures of the sunset but didn't get any trout. A very disappointing day but it is what it is! Better luck next time I guess.

The GF didn't want to end the weekend in a skunk so we went to Hensley Lake. From 11-5. Landed 7 and kept 3 for dinner. All were very feisty. The took home were 15-16 inch around 1-2 lbs. We used pb in rainbow, orange, green, power worm (green and orange), combo of both..At one moment I had a double take down. Bite was slow at the beginning and picked up around 2-3 pm. Landed 4 within 30 mins. Enjoy the picture:

Congrats on the productive trip to Hensley, seems like the locals here in the Fresno/Clovis had the same lack of luck at Pine Flat. What side of Hensley lake were you fishing, on the West side boat ramp area, or east side of the lake? Nice fish..
Great photo's, they capture part of the reason we all love the outdoors so much! :signfishon34hi6zv:

Best wishes, mgcrumster

She sure is a die hard. I finished a project this morning so I decided to schedule an offsite meeting at Hensley Lake for the afternoon. Meeting agenda was to catch fish in 2 hours. Participant was me and gf. She wanted to get a fish on her new rod so that was my mission. It eluded us over the weekend so I had to put her on a fish to break-in the rod.

Made the call and she was like hell yeah, lets go. haha Arrived at the lake with no rain at 2 pm. Soon after it started to rain lightly and got harder but let up at times. Put on our rain gear and then I threw out both rod with green powerbait with green pw and nightcrawler/green pb. Within 15 minutes got hit. Landed 4 fish in an hour. As I was landing them, she was like what the heck, how come my isn't going off. I inspect it and notice that her bait wasn't floating. So we fixed it and threw it out, she got a hit and reeled one in on her new rod. Success. In the next hour, she manage to get 3 more.

We let most of them go but kept 3. We were at the swim beach area.

Picture were taken on iphone so it isn't that great quality.
