After one catches a shark, how do you go about preparing it? I have read a few threads about it but I have been unable to figure out the correct technique. I understand that the sooner you can dress them the better. However, do you skin them or just gut em'? Do you cut them into steaks? I hope you see my dillelma and offer a new guy some advice. I don't plan on catching a shark, but sometimes you never know.

I believe in gutting right after dispatching with the pusuader and rinsing well in the bay. Later, cut off filets like any other fish. Remove the skin from the filets. Get a very sharp filet knife to do all this. ;)

Bleed them first before killing them. It will taste a lot better.

I also always bleed them. After they bleed out, then gut them. Then filet as you would any other fish.

Since it has been brought up, do you guys soak them in milk, or in rocksalt and water or anything like that??

I do not soak mine in milk or rock salt. I normally filet and soak them in chaka's sauce and BBQ.

One idea; garlic, onion and a piece of bacon on top of the filet. Wrap in foil and put on BBQ grill until flakey. 8-)
No milk, motor oil, hard boiled eggs ,vagisil or other soaking material. Just make sure to bleed and /or gut right away to get that amonia taste out of there.

I guess the vagasil would be used when one has to much cheese in a fish taco!!! :o
