I'm interested in what, where and how to fish from the Sanat Cruz Wharf? Any hints or help would be appreciated.

You drop your bait and catch small fish. If you catch big fish, sea lion will get it.

Once upon a time.....it was a great place to bring the kids/grandkids to learn to fish. My first fishing experience was there. I got hooked for life. If you want to pier fish, Santa Cruz is cool because you can drive on to the pier and park right where you fish. The most productive water will always be the area just behind the breaking waves. Surf perch will almost always be feeding there, and the salmon or striper or halibut bite ( in the right season) can be found there as well. The freeloading furbags are less likely to bother you and your catch in the moving water. It can be fun and relaxing, but it isn't the quality/productive fishery it used to be.

I notice you live in Aptos. Do you ever surf fish your local beaches? I drive 2 hours to fish the beaches in your back yard!

Here are two links that have taught me a lot about surf fishing:

These two surf finatics focus on fly fishing....but the generic information is awesome.

Good Luck!
