One week until the trout opener. Saturday dawned beautiful. I wanted to go south down 395 to look at some trout waters prior to the opener. Mrs. C. wanted to spend a little time at Mono Lake. Why not do both.

Headed south at 0700. The first stop was at Conway Summit then down to the Mono Lake County Park and down to the lake on the boardwalk. We made two other stops at Mono then down to the June Lake Loop. Stopping for lunch at a crowded Tiger Bar we visited June, Gull, Silver and Grant Lakes and Rush Creek. All lakes are free of ice and snow. They are ready for the opener. Rush Creek is running clear and waiting for anglers. Bridgeport Res. is full and there is a good hatch going on. The Little Walker is running a little high but is clear. The West Walker is high and a little off color but nothing like last year. It is fishable in the slower areas such as between the 395 bridge downstream to Chris Flats. There should be some holes just upstream of the town of Walker. The Walker Burger stand is open. See you on the water.

Captain, thanks for the wonderful 395 photos. I have been to each spot you photoed, I even have a Tiger Bar Tshirt I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel to many beautiful places world wide. None are any more magnificent than the Eastern Sierra.

US 395 from the Nevada border to south of Lone Pine is perhaps one of the most beautiful drives in the US. I never tire of it.
