Hey guys. With the warm weather in the valley, we went up to the higher mountain for some relief. We were going to hit Wishon/Courtright or even Huntington Lake if Shaver Lake was busy. Stopped over at the dam to survey the lake and it didn't seem that busy. Very odd! I would have thought it would be packed!!! There were some boats out there but not as many as before.

Anyways we decided to stay seeing we got a late start and to target the trophy trout again. This time we were near Road 1. Setup at noon and first fish was on at 12:30 pm by the girlfriend with green crawler. Then it went dead for awhile until 2 when I finally got a fish on. It was a smaller one roughly 6-8 inch with a nasty gouch on its head as he ran into the rock at mach speed or an osprey did surgery on the guy. Manage to release the guy and hopefully he heels and fight another day.

Then it totally went dead. Nothing at all. We tried everything in our tackle. Did lures and casted different kind of flies with no luck.

Then torward the end, orange head/colorfully sparky body fly got a major pull down. It kept taking lines and lines. I carefully fight it as it felt heavy and I was on 4 lb test line. It gave me a fight!! As soon as it got torward shore to where I could see, it looked massive!! As it saw me, he took off again. Finally got him in and it was pretty darn big!!!

He swallowed the fly and was bleeding pretty good. Blood everywhere. He felt heavier than the 7 lbs. Measured him at home and it was 10 lbs and 11 oz. Its probably over 11 lbs if we measured him at the lake as it bleed really good. After filleting and cleaning out the fish. I had to dissect him to get my fly back.

Even though fishing all day was slow, it sure made up for it :)

Onto the pictures:

thnx guys. My first double digit fish and I'm proud of it :)

Now I'm addicted and want to catch some monster :)

Trout will be donated to a friend/co-worker that is recovering from cancer so this will brighten her day up with some fresh trout.

If anyone goes out there, remember to bring some green pinched crawler and if that doesn't work then try an inflated crawler. Water temperature is still pretty cold. The other trout that we got, there was a lot of insect in his belly!! so use green powerbait would work.

Thinking of your friend should be considered a PB!

Awesome fish. Are the pinched crawlers like power worms?

Berkeley gulp alive makes pinched crawlers in chartreuse that float. And they do have green crawlers that you inflate just like a red crawler

Way to pull it out CF!!! Nice looking trout too! Has a real tail instead of a spatula worn off by the tanks. Love the wooly technique!!
